No...no...there it is! Ooops! Where did it go just now? The line-up is stellar, with a balance of both my favorite male and female "folk" singer-songwriters....about a dozen in all and all of whom have played summer folk fests in the recent past, but never all together!! 1) Lucy Kaplansky with Jon Herrington and Nina Gerber 2) Dar Williams with a back-up band 3) The Nields (do they count as ONE or TWO?) 4) Karen Savoca 5) Cheryl Wheeler 6) (I'd like to put Nancy Griffith here....but can I? See rules below.) 7) Richard Shindell solo 8) Greg Brown 9) Ellis Paul 10) Peter Mulvey with Goody Goodrich 11) John Gorka (to sing with Lucy) 12) Steve Earle So you understand the rules of this game? A) Limit performers to about a dozen. Limit it roughly to "folk". B) Keep it balanced. Try for 50% male, 50% female. (It's a challenge!) C) Actual recent folk festival performers likely available this summer. D) Money is no object (we have hundreds and hundreds of $ to pay them!) E) (optional) Where and When you would like it to be.... F) (optionsl) Suggested round-table workshops, like: -"Contemptuous Urban (Womyn)folk" -"Folk You All! These Are Songs About Me Me Me!" -"Songs About What Happened On My Way Here" you get the idea.... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Mar 2000 08:17:13 PST From: "sharon g" Subject: [lucy-list] did richard sing TYN well i was there and at the second table erica wheeler who is hte most chapin like in sound of all the songwriters that i have heard... i liked her and she had to change her clothes in this tiny bathroom ,so small that is too small to change your mind in.. well there i was in this 100 seat Long Island club with Long Islanders and my friends claire and billy.. I'm fascinated by these places-I saw Lucy in a nice wee college theatre at Parklands College in Champaign, Illinois last October, and you all seem to go on about the Bottom Line, etc, etc. Tell us Brits more about these music clubs/halls, we'd like to know. What is your favourite, how big are they, what do they charge, who else apart from Lucy is plays there? I hope this is 'on message' enough, I'd really like to know. Oh yeah, anyone else like Robert Earle Keen? WHoo hoo!! Okay, here I goooo... 1. Nanci Griffith (don't flame me) w/ James Hooker, Pat McInerney, and Ron de la Vega only. 2. Lucy 3. Dar and her cellist 4. Catie Curtis with her mandolin and harmony vocs (thank you froggie!) 5. Cheryl Wheeler 6. Bob Dylan (hahahahaha) 7. Richard Shindell (and he sings harmony w/ Lucy & Dar, too) 8. John Gorka 9. David Mallett 10. Pete Seeger (YEAH!) and if I could, I'd bring Townes down from that bar up there to play... I would like it to be... grm. Well, I could go to the one in Brigadoon, if Brigadoon is near Glasgow so Froggy could come... THAT would be awesome... though I think we'd disagree a bit on who to invite. But anyway, it's this summer in early June, and somehow I get out of school early enough to hop the pond. THAT would be nice. Can't think of any good workshop ideas. C'mon, everybody!! This is fun!! Indigo Girls (duo, no band) 10. me...hehe Of course in my dream festival there would be a huge swimming hole in front of the stage where the audience could float around on rafts and drink cold beverages....after, the performers could nose (or swan) dive into the sea of fans :) Now that would be fun :) See you all at the Bottom Line for Lucy on Good Friday, I will be attending the later show.
