But I have to warn you, I had no coffee yet this morning and two hours of cleaning ahead of me to turn my apartment into a mom-presentable one, not sure if that is a good state to argue with me :-) > Meaning Joan's "Jesse" is better than Janis Ian's, yes!!!!! (never was a huge Janis Ian fan even though I love Hunger) her "The Night > They Drove > Old Dixie Down" is better than the Band's, oh yes!!! Has anybody here heard her "new version", the one she does live nowadays? It's just her and Josh on fiddle (Josh I forgot his last name of "the borrowers", another band worth checking out) and it's aboslutely amazing. Breath taking. > her "Hello in There" is better > than John Prine's, alright, gotta admit I never heard the origninal. But Joan's voice is Joan's voice, there's not a whole lot that could top that for me as far as voices go, at least with women singers. > her "February" is better than Dar's the instrumental part is much better for sure. It's a slightly different song when she does it. This one is a tie I think. and her > "Reunion Hill" > is better than Richard's? again, different takes on the song. While Joan wins the "favorite female voice" award, the one for male voices goes to Richard, so this one is hard. I'd have to say I like them both equally for different reasons. any more questions? We don't have to go through the endless list of covers Joan did so far, do we? I'll let you know how I like her version of Abuelita when I hear it ;-) > I see. Just checking. ;-) > > RG coffee now, Katrin - ----------------------------------------------------------- - If I didn't dream I'd be dead - Peter Mulvey (all in good fun) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Feb 2000 06:36:07 EST From: Rongrittz@aol.com Subject: Re: [lucy-list] under the covers >>> her "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" is better than the Band's . . . ? <<< >> oh yes!!! << Yeah, I especially like the parts where she gets the lyrics wrong. Mr. Greitzer will share the bill with a folk duo known as Franzone & Ventura. There will be an open mic beforehand and things get underway at 7:30PM. There is a $5 cover charge. It's still my favorite of hers. While I'm on a de-lurk roll here and thinking about potential Lucy covers...Think some Lucinda Williams material from her self titled cd might surprise if Lucy were to take it on. (Look what Passionate Kisses did for MCC) Several great songs there that would sound really different minus Lucinda's twang and grit plus the doc's range and clear voice. Now I just gotta figure out where the heck Crockett Texas is...or else face crossing the Red River to see Lucy in April!
