I would also love to hear Lucy do Catie Curtis "World don't owe me". Now I'm trying to think of a fast song... give me a day or two. Unlike my cousin who memorized everything in college with one reading....nevermind I can't remember much about either song but...I do remember Tom leaning over to me saying thats probably the song that will rocket her to fame. It was that good AND it was less folky, kinda pop-y..........near the end, she kinda just hummed along then stopped the song. She started the song saying she had written a bit more that afternoon and would sing it to that point. I anticipated she's make up something at the end about a song Willy Porter had opened with....... Anyway, the guy that opened, was great. I can only explain him by saying he is the Robin Williams of acoustic music. He came up with two songs that were made up that day and one was actually made up by audience suggestions. He really deserves a spot some night on Drew Carey's Whose Line is it anyway. The audience game him, these words.....dogs, lasagna, anti-valentine, fuzzy and I don't remember what else. He gave the audience three choices of sounds we picked one and off he went into this hysterical twisting turn of events with a date. It was great. The first song was about Rosebud and Pittsburgh's location. . I'd love to see him live again Sue ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Feb 2000 18:07:35 +0100 From: Katrin.Uhl@t-online.de (Katrin Uhl) Subject: RE: [lucy-list] angry song #2 > katrin loses her grammar and uses aint without caps... oh my gosh, I lost my grammar, where, when? Might it be that I left it in an apartment in Brooklyn? I can't come look for it before the summer though :-) Talking about grammar and language (and then I'll get to some Lucy content, I promise): one more anecdote from my Ireland trip: I was standing at the bar of the local pub we invaded every night of our stay on Achill Island, minding my own business and ordering a glass of Powers, when this guy sitting next to me asks: where are you from (insert Irish accent)? Germany, I say, and had the hardest time to make him believe that was actually true. "You have this really bad Yankee accent" he said. :-) I've been thinking of a fast song I'd like Lucy to cover - all you MCC fans out there, what would you think about a Lucy version of Shut up and kiss me? I could definitely see her cover Stones in the Road as well, but then of course tha's not a fast one. I'd also love to hear her do a duet with Vance Gilbert. > though i would be surprised and disappointed if i didnt hear > 10 year night... > > i would either sit down and cause a peace action for 10 year night > and refuse to leave the place or i wuold have to sing it myself Sharon, I'd be right there with you and I'd bring my guitar and play it for you myself, how's that? It could be a sing in. Lucy and Ten Year Night and Richard and Are you happy now - I can see that a song needs to be put to rest for a while when it's on the point of turning into your signature song. Maybe it's because you grow tired of playing it (even though we won't get tired of hearing it), maybe it's because other songs might stand in its shadow. But that song is just plain beautiful and I hope she continues playing it. When is Newport exactly? I might not make it to Falcon Ridge this year but maybe Newport if it's close enough to when I need to be in the US. Will you let me be your road buddy again, Sharon? Lucy wore the patchwork blue jeans, her “new look,” explaining to the sold-out house that the jeans reflected her repressed hippie fantasies from adolescence. She mentioned that a cousin was in the house. HIGHLIGHTS: New songs “Don’t Mind Me” and “No More Excuses” are taking shape, although Lucy still introduced the former, commissioned for a film, as “unfinished.” A stirring piano version of “If You Could See” segued immediately to the Johnny Cash gem, “I Still Miss Someone,” which in Lucy’s slow version is devoid of its tendency toward sing-song, but lush in romance. The first five were also the first five, in order, from her appearance at Baldwin’s Station last month. The Barns is a special place. It’s where my daughter, Jackie, and I first saw Lucy open for John Gorka. We’ve been Lucy fans ever since. - --Jay ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Feb 2000 11:19:22 -0800 (PST) From: John Alvord Subject: Re: [lucy-list] covers I just imagined Lucy doing "Can't Touch Me!!!"
