What else did he write, do you know? >> He was part of a duo called Buskin and Batteau (with David Buskin), and they released several CDs, most of which, I believe, are out of print. Their version of "Guinevere" is one of my favorite songs in the world, with an ending that will make your hair stand on end. Robin plays violin and sings, and David plays piano and sings. I first heard of them on a Tom Rush special on PBS many, many years ago, when they played Robin's signature song "Boy with the Violin." They probably haven't written any other POPULAR songs you've heard of . . . but their primary claim to fame is as jingle writers. Robin can retire comfortably because he wrote -- if you can believe this -- the "Heartbeat of America" jingle for Chevrolet, as well as many others. David made a similarly dubious mark as a jingle writer with "You Deserve a Break Today" (for McDonald's) as well as others. If you can, scour the used CD bins for their final release "B&B," which has the two songs Lucy covers. Well worth searching out. Good show, even if she did struggle with the after effects of the flu bug. It was our first experience of BNC and her music. We were very impressed, thought the second last song of the last encore (there were three, I think) was a wonderful new song. Bought Sand & Water, excellent CD, we like it a lot. I've mentioned on the list before that I get driven mad at concerts where the levels are cranked up too high. This was no exception. My pal Dave & I thought the piano level was so high our fillings were going to drop out, (what a mess that would have made!) and on a few of Beth's songs, the reverb was so overwhelming, it distorted everything. Its so unnecessary, the high notes distort, the performer has to bellow above the instruments, and the whole thing falls apart! Anyone agree? Will be away for Prine & Dement, but am going to see Tom Paxton at RCH a week Sunday. See you there? I agree. One of the great things about Lucy's shows is that she doesn't boost the guitar so much that you can't hear her voice. Her guitar actually sounds like it's coming from the stage, not disembodied all around you, and her voice is clear and crisp. Kudos to the sound techs in Charlotte on Friday night. Lucy's show was great BTW, and I got two requests played, Flesh and Bone and Mary Magdalen (although I was pretty sure she'd play the latter, I wanted to make sure she got it in on the encores). She also re-iterated that she FIRST played "The Angels Rejoiced" at our show in Lincolnton last summer :-) Rick and Lucy were gracious as always afterward, signing some CDs for my sisters, whom attended with me, and we chatted for a few moments about Cliff E's recent car accident and Richard Shindell moving to Argentina. Not only is that where Richard's wife is from, but she has received some fellowship or something for work or study there. I didn't quite get the whole story, but Rick mentioned something about it. Anyway, I know there are others here on the list that were probably at the concert, who can post their thoughts as well. I'm off to order Richard's new CD... He and David Buskin performed together for many years and he often does benefit concerts for the World Hunger Year organization founded by Harry Chapin. cheers, Martha At 11:28 AM 01/17/2000 -0000, you wrote: >Those are two great Lucy songs.
