Lucy was raving about Makor, but I did not like the venue for a number of reasons. First of all, I agree with you that the ten-dollar minimum is ridiculous -- even had patrons been notified about it. Second of all, I think their ticket system is ridiculous. I called and was told that the "regular" seats were unavailable but that I could get a "partial viewing ticket" for the same $12. I did, because I wanted to see Lucy, and when I showed up, was ushered to a back room -- a completely separate room from the one in which Lucy played -- and was not permitted to go up front. Fortunately, I ran into Rick and he let me help out with merchandise in exchange for securing my entry into the "cool zone" and getting me a chair. Then, just before the show began, I was completely shocked to see the partial viewing folk come up and STAND behind the regular tables. $12 to STAND for an entire show? That's wild. Also, I CAN'T stand for a whole show. I have a leg condition -- long story -- and I am simply unable to stand for that long. What would I have done had Rick not been so nice? Humiliated myself by having to explain my condition and beg for a seat at the bar? Sit in that separate room, by myself, and stare at the wall as I strained to hear the music from the front room? It's ridiculous, badly planned, and inconsiderate. And what was with all the security? I want to keep Lucy safe as anyone, but she's no President. Anyway, yeah, Benay, I thought the venue was ridiculous. I had also considered seeing the Nields there next week, and I'm not going because I didn't like it there. Lucy was wonderful as always, of course. It was an amazing show. She was in great vocal form, and had fabulous energy. She wasn't afraid to really rip into the material -- in that restrained, beautiful, Kaplansky way, of course.
