Oh wow!!! Everything is right with the list!! This is great...this started and ended inside 24hours...it's a record!! Nancinet fights last all season sometimes. ANd i even got called mature...well... Does anybody have any idea when this 'next album' lucy's talking about will rear it's head?? She keeps saying that 'broken things' will be on the next one. jenny* ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Dec 1999 08:37:10 -0500 From: Steve Robertson Subject: [lucy-list] Young Lucy Hey Folks- Over on the Folk Revival list, we've been discussing folk music on video. One that was mentioned was the "Folk City 25th Anniversary Concert", filmed in 1985. I decided to try it (found it at Amazon.com), and discovered a surprise. I can't really recommend the video very highly for the music. There are a few good songs, but they are offset by an equal number of bad songs. And the production values look very low-budget compared to modern videos. But on one of the good songs- Eric Andersen's "Thirsty Boots"- you'll find a very young Dr. K singing backup. So this video might be worth the purchase price for someone who wants to collect everything on which Lucy has performed. Hi guys! off to see Lucy play in Dublin tonight. I missed her last time because i had just flown back from a Dar concert in Ottowa (*ha*, i love saying that!!!) but I did get to see her play at *FRFF* (*ha*, i love saying that!!!). Hey, i'm just provoking ye! Davy Lamb wrote It's weird that this sort of talent is playing in a small smoky bar with about 100 people, but I'm glad it happened! The best thing to do is bring along 2/3 freinds! Next time Lucy plays get them to bring even just one or two people and make some tapes for friends etc. Gerry of the Tyrell clan said Sharon ! - I'm getting all my bits together! I've a small back-pack at this stage. I think I'll hit The Bretzel tomorrow afternoon - its a small kosher bakery in Portobello, home of *the* best apple danish pastries in Dublin - I defy Peter Knight to find nicer! Yeah well, there may be a vacuum of danish pastries in my life but i know lot more tarts than you! :\ Mum is making brown bread downstairs. I wonder.... bye all, Pete see ya there gerry i have a different camera now - not the one that almost blinded Dar and left half the audience's shadow on the wall for weeks after the gig!!! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Dec 1999 16:33:49 -0000 From: "Iain Geddes" Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Re: lucy-list-digest V1 #262 I think there is one thing you have to remember. We Scots are able to laugh at ourselves. Ian is neither hasty, nor lofty. I'm quite convinced knowing him that his tongue was firmly in his cheek. Please feel free to contact me via the site. BTW, if you can't see the thumbnail images it's because your browser doesn't support PNG. (he still has the headache) and i dont have the checker how could i in good conscience be still- the high jinx began right after there was an announcement that Lucy would play Europe- teh dates came months later - there was a lull- no one could find a voice or thread and a small statement that would help lucy became the pastry crunchin monster we see today i didnt quite understand the insult of we have no history, I thought what are early dar tapes doing ebing referenced here sue you put it exquisuitely- i champion anyone but eddie from Ohio i mean virginia to call me a stupid american. Froghead- take responsibility for what is yours- not anyone elses this mature polywog knows more about folk and American folk than another frog her age- You kick butt froggy- keep being a challenge to the balance- post away.. as to the topic at hand- it has been creative, amusing and sometimes oboxnious sure- but it has built a community- last january at my first C3 show, i could not get a lister to say hey to me- after reading that other parts of the country get together for dinner before shows, i shouted out on the darlist and that community was built- we can go to shows and know a table will be available- most of us who go alone -are no longer alone for a few hours. we share stories, mail on and off the list- the same developed for more folk shows. we care about each other- if we dont hear from each other or see each other we write check up and check in - one by product of the high jinx is that more people on and off the list joined the discussions- whatever they were- and anyone is free to start a thread or suggestion one- i belong to list that would forbid no LUCY content- and are rigid about it- BTW- i always incude my lucy content i get at least three mails a week asking " what can i bring to the show" i say "yourself"- but what can i say to Lucy i am asked - - i say "say i said hello"- give her a message- the said items are a way people can appproach her and start a conversation- that has been as important as the items in question- also - i hope you all would get to know each other so at your next show you can sit and hang out and keep up the relationships - the pond group is a small sample and let the club owners see you are united and will come and You Will GET more Music...more folk music the by products are endless if you think of it- i have gotten to knwo you all better and whomever sees me at Falcon Ridge better bring "ME" something- the only thing left is that I have to face Lucy herself after these escapades Rick said me with the 10 year night high jinx that we was perplexed in the beginning and then joined the creative fun to se who would could should sing it next- Lucy also knows of the 10 Year night high jinx- though i was pleased that the Hallalujah Choir of the Messiah broke out into 10 year night in the middle with all of us standing...with pete and maura kennedy playing it on their guitars. it has always been about the music and the people who make up the audience for without the people there is no to hear the music- i hope they are playing nice in Dublin tonight.... sharonG ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Dec 1999 16:54:54 PST From: "sharon g" Subject: [lucy-list] if ya need to say it hey walter that was a great post- sent me right to the Fig Newtons- if ya need to say something to Lucy- tell her i am wondering if she is missing the New York bagels.. it's in the water.. i'll fedex em to her- woman does not live by Bread alone.. and can someone in 60 second explain to me why "bagette doesnt come in a bag" sharonG again ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Dec 1999 20:08:05 EST From: Witchaywm@aol.com Subject: Re: [lucy-list] My pictures from The Borderline In a message dated 12/18/99 4:06:01 PM Central Standard Time, mailm@tthewb.u-net.com writes: << I haven't had time to do much touching up of the pictures so they're still a bit orange >> Matt-- The pictures from the Borderline are really great! I think the orange lighting is very dramatic, it complements the violet nicely. I wouldn't change the coloring at all if I were you. Thank you for sharing those.
