I have a long-time = froggie friend who would really like that church! Krista. She was the = one who spotted me tapes of Lucy's first two CD's after I first saw Lucy = at the "Tree Frog Music Festival" in our small hometown, which she = helped organize and performed in. To top that, she got Lisa and I = "comp"ed into the Bothy Folk Club show last spring where I took all of = those sharp photos recently added to Lucy's website. See? A true = froggie-Lucy connection! Alas, Krista could no tag along for the last Lucy show in these parts = (Sat, 12/4) as her social club, The Bothy, was hosting Christine Lavin = at the exact same time as Lucy. That makes two glaring conflicts in a = row for Lucy--the last time it was Lucinda Williams doing a simultaneous = down the street at "The House that Prince Built". A bit of Lucy-ESP trivia....has this happened to anyone else out there? = I went to last Saturday night's show and drew a complete blank when = asked by a friend what I might want to hear. This is normally a very = fun exercise for me 'cuz I know the names of all the songs. After about = fifteen minutes of being beside myself for drawing a blank and not = having a clue what to yell when the time to yell requests came up, I = told my friend, during the intermission, "The Balled of Mary = Magdalene"--I had never heard it done by Lucy and those few that have = say they were transported by the experience. Well, we sat down for the = beginning of the second set and Lucy did that song first! O.K., now = what? I thought about the last show...how I missed the final encore = because my wife thought it was over and wanted to hurry out and pick up = our son Wolfgang.....I leaned over to ask Lisa, between songs, "What was = the name of the song that I missed last time because I left early?" = "By Way of Sorrow", she answered. Just then Lucy went into the opening = of "By Way of Sorrow"! So I got to hear that for the first time, = too...Eerie! But I still needed to come up with a request! When the = time to yell finally came, the usual stuff (like Guinevere) got yelled = and after it got quieter in the room, I simply said "Goodnight" the = final song in my "Why-Ain't-I-Heard-It-Yet?" Trilogy. And you know = what? She played it! Although she didn't know who the baked goods = were from until after the show, it certainly seemed to pay off for me! = Let that be a lesson for all you Lucy-Listers! Baked goods rule! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Dec 1999 14:26:08 -0000 From: "Jenny" Subject: Re: [lucy-list] G/F# chord Hi Greg, >G/F# is just a G chord with an F# bass = 220003 or 2x0003. From top to bottom: 6th - 2nd fret 5th - 2nd fret 4th - open 3rd - open 2nd - open 1st - 3rd fret This chord is usually encountered as part of a "walk-down" bass part, as in "Ten Year Night" at the begining of the verse. In TYN, however, you use a hammer-on on the second fret of the 6th string. It's a little awkward at first, but once you get it you'll find yourself "walkin down the road feelin' bad" as in "bad*ss." Walk-downs and walkups are an integral part of the acoustic musician's arsenal, signalling chord and even key changes to other players and vocalists. Once you have this technique down you'll use it a lot :-) Charlie Sweeney (=}===# Virtual Guitarist-Something Black http://somethingblack.com http://susanwerner.com http://karensavoca.com ------------------------------ End of lucy-list-digest V1 #256 ******************************* This has been a posting from the Lucy Kaplansky mail list digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe lucy-list-digest" in the body of the message
