There were two sold out shows. This was the first time both shows sold out. So I guess that means no more procrastinating when lucy comes to Philly. Have to get those tickets early. Wasn't very familiar with opener Chuck Brodsky before but enjoyed his set. He played a lot of songs about baseball or baseball people. Some that stuck with me were one about Max Patkin, the Clown Prince of Baseball, and one about a guy called Radio, an autistic guy that his community has really embraced. What I noticed last night is that Lucy has gotten even better as a live performer in the short time I've been going to see her. She was joined up there by Jon Herington on elctric guitar who was also excellent. I was too busy enjoying the show to get the entire set list scribbled down. She of course played 10 Year Night. Also did the angry trilogy (really liked the new song), Scorpion, Broken Things, and some others before finishing with Speaking With the Angel. Lucy also shared some neat stories between the songs, including one about meeting Emmylou Harris in an airport. All in all, a wonderful show. After obtaining a copy of the Red House Records sampler House on Fire, Volume 2, I became a fan of both of these performers. I now have all of their CD's, but have never seen either of them perform separately. (I did see Lucy at the Cry Cry Cry show in Wilmington in September.) Unfortunately, I was unable to attend either of the Tin Angel shows since I already had tickets to see a Beatlemania Show (tickets of which I received as part of the 3 show plan that included the Cry Cry Cry show.) I generally don't post to lists (except for the Phillies list), but I do read many and I'm surprised how that discussion lists don't mention Chuck Brodsky. I would think that people that like performers such as Lucy Kaplansky (or Richard Shindell) would really like Chuck. He does play a fair amount of sports (primarily baseball) related music that could bother some non-sports fans. As a big baseball fan of course this does not bother me. As someone who has met and talked to the recently deceased Max Patkin, I would have loved to have heard this new song (which Chuck has not recorded). Those I have had listen to Chuck's music have said he sounds like Bob Dylan, although he's much easier to understand. He tells great stories, sometimes with humor or a twist. Sorry to get away from discussing Lucy; I really do like her and hope to be able to see her perform soon. I tried to see her at King of Prussia last summer, but the show was inside because of the rain and we were too late to get an inside seat. Hopefully she'll be performing in the Philadelphia area again soon. Thanks to everyone who participates in this list.
