The Nelson's, for those of you who aren't familiar, are the sons of Ricky Nelson. It was really a good concert...they sang many of their dad's old songs (Mathew Nelson sounds very much like his father) and many of their own. Gunthar, the other Nelson (they are twins) also sang and played the drums. He was the most fun drummer to watch that I have ever seen. They played for over two hours and you couldn't help but like them by the end of the show. They came out to the lobby after and signed autographs and said hi to anyone who wanted to meet them. What was funny for me was that I had seen Ricky Nelson on this same stage 26 years ago! It was right after the Madison Square Garden rock n roll revival that he had played at that consequently spurred him to write "Garden Party" which was a really good song that we all could identify with. Well, when Mathew Nelson sang it, it was really eerie for me.....laughingly, I told Carol, "I think he sang it better than his dad". Anyway, it was a good time and kind of a time warp for me. Hope you all had a good wkend. I love the way the song starts. Just lucy. I completely agree with ya harvey, the melody is jsut such a great contrast to the angry words that lucy's spilling out. Maybe that's because,,,hmmm, how do i word this? Well, this person is being sooo rude just sitting there like that, so when she catches on to the >indifference, phoniness, pretentiousness, selfishness, thoughtlessness, vapidity, arrogance, duplicity >and evilness of this monster. ,she attacks it by responding in this plesant way, with a sweet melody, but saying so much against the person, it's like, 'hey you're not even paying enough attention to realise that i'm talking abotu you and your arrogance here!!! You're just taking in my sweet smile as i say this stuff!!'. Hmm, i don't know if i said exactly what i mean, but never mind. That first verse reminds me sooo much of my dad. But that's a whole other field of unresolved anger. He won't look you in the eye while yout alk to him. We'll be sitting in a cafe, he;ll ask me a question. i start talking and his eyes wander around the cafe, judging people and god knows what else. And if i stop he won't notice. Of course, you oculd say that i use him, considering that i'm letting him come see lucy with me just so that i can get the 20 miles home after the show. ; ) jenny* ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Nov 1999 10:02:15 PST From: "sharon g" Subject: [lucy-list] deliveries next time lucy plays the bottom line i'm gonna jsut say to the waitstaff hey send her a plate of those buffalo wings and one of those little pizza things.. maybe some seasoned fries to though i know she eats before shows... new yorkers *love* to carry food around with them get cosmopolitian...tote a salami to folkk shows... bill crack out those raving dixie chicks.. and spin them on high volume... they even cover buddy miller who wrote with jim lauderdale - hole in My head that is on FLY opne the car windows and sing along... one of my number one CD's of the year is Wide Open Spaces... The same thought had occurred to me, but when I went to the relevant site, I found that only those in the US can make a purchase. We can only hope that Lucy is bringing over a good stock of them! It was the best show I have ever seen by any performer. Her father played the piano two songs. There were 3 video cameras filming the show for a nationally distributed show on PBS called 'The Artist Profile'. The person in charge indicated that the program might air in the January or February time frame. If anyone knows anything about this program, could you please post it.
