While I didn't keep a set list, I think it was = pretty much the standard issue. But tonight, Lucy's songs were = embellished by the always amazing Nina Gerber. I've seen Lucy solo a = few times before, and I think the additional instrumental touches added = a great deal to the arrangements. Lucy was in good spirits and fine form; she said she was really excited = to have sold out The Freight for the first time in her career. Lucy's mom and dad have been at every Berkeley show I've attended; = tonight was no exception. And, as usual, the showstopper was Lucy's dad = joining her on piano for "The Pi Song." My wife, daughter and I sat across the aisle from Lucy's mom and dad. = Lucy's rendition of "For Once In Your Life" seemed particularly = heartfelt. I have to admit that I almost felt like I was intruding on a = private moment between mother and daughter. All in all, a really great show. And it was especially nice to see such = a large enthusiastic turn out. - ------------------------------------------ Bob Phelps rcphelps@pacbell.net - ------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Nov 1999 09:38:28 EST From: Wblr4@aol.com Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Berkeley, CA--a big ol' goofy smile This is what I was talking about earlier..re: more instrumental in the growth of folk performance and who the next superstar could be...I do think that added instrumental arrangements are the the next step toward separating yourself from other folk performers and that will be necessary to capture an even greater following. I know it is arguable by many that this might not be a requirement and would detract from the intimacy that we all enjoy...but if I were in that business it would like being in any other..to win, to be successful! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Nov 1999 11:27:55 EST From: RJFesquire@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] Re: lucy-list-digest V1 #231 Did anyone see the Berkeley (Freight & Salvage) show last night? I use to share a flat with him many years ago and have never seen such a gifted guitarist play so well when sooo drunk. What a guy. I'm glad he has done well for himself. He played on Sheryl Crows 2nd album and was also guitar "instructor" in the comedy film Still Crazy with Jimmy Nail and Timothy Spall. It was my first time at the Freight and just the second time to hear Lucy live. I can only say that we all loved it. She sang a lot of great songs. My son was really taken by Nina Gerber's guitar playing. They both seemed to be having a good time and the people who work at the Freight and Salvage were the nicest people. Can't wait for Lucy to come back. Kathy ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Nov 1999 00:15:48 -0000 From: "IAN BUCHAN" Subject: Re: [lucy-list] I am out here...i can hear this...
