She is a go-getter. Constantly promoting great new music and musicians, backing it with her all. From way down here in Sydney Australia her push for great music has had effect. She introduced me to the music of John Gorka, Cheryl Wheeler, The wonderful Patty Larkin, John Forster and the delightful Jonatha Brooke. ONE VOTE FOR CHRISTINE LAVIN. A true queen of Folk. Through her staging of Phil Ochs Song Nights over the last 6 or more years she has not only helped introduce new audiences to Phil's songs, but also introduced many new artists, too. Don't forget, also, that Sonny is one of the organizers of Falcon Ridge and definately is the queen of the workshop stage! - -- Howie Lyhte howie@lucent.com ________________________________________________________________________ \|/ ____ \|/ ~@-/ oO \-@~ /_( \__/ )_\ Don't panic! \__U_/ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 7 Nov 1999 21:19:36 -0000 From: "Jenny" Subject: [lucy-list] baking stuff Ok, so we don't know what pumpkin bread is. How about pancakes, as in the scottish kind. little and round, not like the big flat thin ones you get over there. or....shortbread??? i know lots of americans who became addicted while visiting scotland. Scones, ok, but i can't make them. i can't make much. i ain't a domestic...Hmm.......I don't think my mum would agree to bake for some american singer/songwriter she hasn't met before...Although, the other day, my mum said the funniest thing. she reckons i should try and get lucy to put music to some of my poems. i laughed. and i laughed. and i laughed. jenny* ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 Nov 1999 09:53:57 EST From: RockinRonD@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] Turning The Lights Back On In light of Harvey's wonderfully entertaining post, with the litany of questions regarding how I intend to continue my life as a Times music writer, I felt compelled to answer the afrementioned inquiries as best I can: 1) If assigned to cover a Ricky Martin show I will imbibe copious amounts of alcohol and delude myself into thinking it's actually Richard Shindell singing Living La Viva Loca or whatever. 2) If I win a Pulitzer prize for music writing I will never talk to any of you again. Ever. Unless you make an appointment and bring Belgian chocolate. 3) I've already had a musical lobotomy. Couldn't you tell? 4) If you see me at a musical event, you may say hello, but only if you ask my permission first. All written requests submitted beforehand will be given careful consideration. 5) The Times has granted me an assistant. I've chosen her from the New York Girls House of Dentention. I'm not sure she would let me sit on her if I were to return to a concert at the Outpost church. I doubt she's Catholic. 6) The word "discount" has been deleted from the Times lexicon. 7) If I were to use sharonG's spell checker I'd be lucky to get a job as an obituary writer with the Oshkosh Observer. 8) My expense account will not extend to covering Lucy's shows in England and Ireland. My editor refuses to believe that a nice jewish girl psychiatrist with a guitar could ever appeal to anyone outside of Borough Park. I shall miss everyone on this List as well. But I WILL be covering Dar/Cheryl at the Outpost in December! Stay cool. Folk Forever. For those of you who have attended house concerts it is a great article to read. For those of you who haven't, it will hopefully move you to attend one. Music just does not get more intimate than at one of these shows. My first house concert was at Tim and Lori Blixt's (who are mentioned in the NYT article) in Wayne, NJ., and was none other than Lucy herself. It was somewhat over two years ago and my wife and I were just blown away. Lucy rarely does these kinds of shows anymore so Katie and whoever else gets to see her upcoming house gig in California had better believe that they are about to feel like they have just won the grand prize in a lottery. Katie, please try and post us about it....I am totally envious of you!
