And is she playing anywhere outside > London? They didn't suggest other places to me, but there must be plenty of places around (I'm not a long-time Londoner so I'm not greatly knowledgeable on venues - I hadn't heard of the 12 Bar until the Lucy concert). It would be nice to see her at somewhere like the Embassy Rooms (just a personal observation). It will probably depend on availability, and also what kind of capacity they are going for - the 12 Bar is tiny, and was crammed full for Lucy, so maybe they will try for something a little bigger, I don't know. As for outside London, well I saw a posting on a newsgroup that said she was playing Sheffield on the 10th, so I presume she is playing at least a few more cities. I got the impression from earlier information that she would be in Europe until mid to late December, so hopefully there should be other dates. > > I also got to see Mary Chapin Carpenter a few days > ago, in Cambridge (UK), > supported by Catie Curtis. ... Yes, that was me who asked, was it the acapella version, with the great harmonies? If so, Yea! Kay ===== ____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? It's fairly big, and lots of different events are held there. I wonder how many people it accommodates.....several hundred, perhaps a thousand, but not much more. Actually, Joan herself said: "Thanks for coming out on a horrible night to this very odd building...." !! I'm not sure why she thought it was odd, but she was in an extraordinarily jokey mood - she apologised for her 'supreme silliness tonight'....I've never seen her that lighthearted before. It was lovely. The highlights for me were, ironically, two covers. But that wasn't surprising since most of the evening consisted of other people's songs, with a few of her own thrown in. The first was a heart-rending version of Betty Elders' "Long Bed from Kenya" which she did as a duet with Eliza Carthy. It was stunning. The second was a jaw-dropping version of Richard Shindell's 'Money for Floods' which began with a string quartet and then added a guitar and plaintive violin. It truly sent shivers down my spine. On a Lucy note, I'm really glad she seems to definitely be coming over here - - I wonder if she'll play Cambridge? That would be a treat. I don't suppose the dates are up on Musi-cal yet.....I'll check soon. Take care everyone, Buffy :) P.S. Bill - were you really in Cambridge? You should have looked us up! ------------------------------ End of lucy-list-digest V1 #220 ******************************* This has been a posting from the Lucy Kaplansky mail list digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe lucy-list-digest" in the body of the message
