And while I'm on the subject, if none of you have ever heard of Louise Taylor I urge you to RUN THIS MINUTE and get her latest record, "Ride." Louise Taylor is my current obsession and after blissing out completely on "Ride" I ordered and got "Ruby Shoes," her second album, which is equally mind blowing. Now if I can just get the very first record, which is no longer in print. Guess I'll have to call Louise in Vermont for that one. If you like Richard Shindell and Lucy Kaplansky, I highly recommend Louise Taylor as well as Lynn Miles. Just doing my job. He really added to your already great singing and playing. I honestly didn't know what I was expecting but you were beyond my best hopes or expectation. My wife, Carol, and I will be talking you up for some time to come on our famous "lucy list". Thanks for a total blast a fun effort. Hope your career continues to grow. You deserve it. Speaking of Lucy, Richard, and Lynn: Richard Shindell and Lynn Miles are co-billing TONIGHT at Rehearsal Sound Studios in Indianapolis! sharon g wondered: >btw: where is lucy? i lost track of her but i smell >the baking so she must be somewhere out >there... Last night she was in Champaign-Urbana at the Parkland Theatre on a co-bill with Carrie Newcomer and her band. Lucy seemed a little tired and not especially "up", but gave us a wonderful show anyway (of course). Setlist: Angels Rejoiced (Louvin Bros.) End of the Day One Good Reason 5 in the Morning Broken Things Ten Year Night No More Excuses The Swimming Song For Once In Your Life By Way of Sorrow That's Mathematics / Pi Scorpion Encore: My Name Joe Too short, but it was a co-bill. Friends of Lucy's mom were in this audience, so "For Once..." took on extra significance. Nov. 13th, in Berkeley, while doing a radio mini-gig, Lucy will be joined by a very special guest accompanist on piano: Irving Kaplansky. Should be fun. (Carrie Newcomer will have a guest piano player, as well, when she plays Tucson soon: Barbara Kingsolver). 'Twas fun to meet Walter Wolfe, who came all the way from Glasgow for the show. Walter will be reporting the details, for all you Glaswegians, about Lucy's European plans. He's seeing her again tonight in St.Louis. I'm headed the other way, to catch Richard and Lynn in Indy! I don't think that the fact that Lucy went on first had any significance at all (someone has to go first when there is a co-bill)....then you said: <> ....psssstttttt, Lucy is the real deal every night....and later you said.... <>....she did ask us our names which caught me off guard and then shook our hand...pretty classy and down to earth, we thought.>> ....you thought absolutely correctly....If you take a voice that is a gift from heaven, infuse it with staggeringly genuine emotion, throw in some brilliant songwriting ability, add in a fabulously engaging and open personality, layer on some serious amounts of class, and then top it all off with physical beauty, you get....(drumroll please!)...Lucy Kaplansky!....Just imagine how Carrie Newcomer felt to have to follow her.... I've joined Lucy-list myself, and will no longer require Bill to forward postings to my mailbox to keep me up to date. I enjoyed your comments on Bill's review. I know Lucy's set for the Frieght & Salvage in Berkeley that weekend; got any more details what the "radio mini-gig" will be? In the past, she's guested on "West Coast Live" when she's been in the Bay Area. Lucy's mom and dad have been at every Lucy show I've attended in this area. Yes Robert, it is "West Coast Live" that Lucy and Dad will be on on Nov. 13th (the name was escaping me earlier). I guess it is syndicated many places, unfortunately not here. Earlier I said: >Richard Shindell and Lynn Miles are co-billing >TONIGHT at Rehearsal Sound Studios in >Indianapolis! My apologies to anyone I steered wrong. We found out the hard way (driving 2+ hours each way), that the Shindell/Miles concert was CANCELLED (The Indianapolis promoter had no mention of this on his answering machine when we called to ask about ticket availability. We aren't happy campers). While I did get to see Lynn a couple times last Spring, and she was great, she is also developing a reputation for cancelling shows at the last minute. This is the second time within eight months that I've gone to see her, only to find that she's cancelled. –R. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 17 Oct 1999 22:23:48 EDT From: Wblr4@aol.com Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Thelma, er, Lynn and Louise.
