Saw Lucinda Williams last night @ Chicago's Riviera and once again realized that at 28 (as of Monday), I'm too old for that kind of thing. Give me an hushed, attentive audience, chairs, and limited smoking, and I'm a happier camper. Not to say that Lucinda wasn't great... she was. And she should do more blues. Which, in addition to Bill & Carol's comment, reminded me of the Ravinia show this past August. As I a) know way more about Ravinia than anyone should have to after working there too long and b) tend to obsess about venues, I wanted to offer this info. The Martin Theater (the great stage where the Lucy/John/Dar show took place) seats a mere 850 or so. And, since it was raining that day/eve, there weren't more than 150 people on the lawn, which = 1100 max. (The mainstage there seats 3300, and the lawn really has a limitless capacity of very well over 10000.) Have a great weekend, y'all! ~Kelli ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Oct 1999 23:23:16 EDT From: Wblr4@aol.com Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Remembering Lucy shows Dear Kelli, First of all, happy birthday tomorrow!! At 28, you'll be the envy of many on this lucy-net. I, for one, can't hardly even remember what I was thinking or doing at 28. Hope you have a great day. I really agreed with you about the standing and the difference it makes when the person you've come to watch can be heard as opposed to interruptive conversations that only use the music as a background. Because I'm not a smoker, the smokey environment wouldn't be a first choice either. I had to laugh about a year ago I went to a Jimmie Dale Gilmore concert at Schubas and he requested that there be no smoking. I always wondered if some of his fans that came for that show were irritated with him. I know I kind of appreciated it. Guess I got a little enthusiastic about the Martin Theatre capacity! I became such a Lucy fan that night...I would have been pleased if it had only been her with a band to back her up. Looks like there will be a lot of us at the 16th Lucy concert. Should be fun...hope we can say hello.
