We chatted and relived our experiences as grad students at NYU next door. Then Lucy walked up to the door and greeted Sharon like they were good buddies. Lucy had just come from feeding the pigeons in Washington Square Park (a relaxation technique). Somehow, she looked different. I was seeing Lucy with no makeup! Obviously she gets all dolled up backstage. Sharon clued Lucy in as to who was coming and who wasn't coming to the show. Lucy excused those who wouldn't be in attendance. I tried to give away a ticket but found no takers. People obviously want to pay, so that Lucy can reap the financial benefit. Eventually, my friend Alan found out that he could sell his ticket back to the box office (great policy). Great club. Then there was the show. Sharon hit the highlights. Wow! Alan's daughter Mara hadn't been familiar with Lucy's music and a new fan was born. Great to see those under 23 types digging it. Show over. Time to get my 10 Year Night CD signed. Small line. Many more intimate friends than usual waiting. She greeted me and wrote: To Larry.....then some really intimate friends moved in...I was in the middle of a family conversation or something. She apologized for the interruption. Back to the signing. Had to tell her that the last 3 times I've seen her, I have been the recipient of complimentary tickets from WFUV, the greatest station in the world (she agrees). And the CD she was signing also was sent to me by FUV for suggesting a theme day. She asked about the theme I suggested and how that works. Songs with names in the titles, you know, like "Lucy in the Sky..." She complimented me on my good fortune. One of these I will have to pay to get in. Back to mowing the lawn. Sorry we didn't chat with everyone there. My wife didn't want to be there, and she thinks I'm having an affair with Lucy given that I've seen her about fifteen times over the last eighteen months. Jon Herrington shined once again, although he was drowned out a few times. I loved the new tune "No More Excuses". As Sharon will attest, my jaw dropped when Jennifer Kimball strolled onto the stage. Two of my favorite singers on the same stage. What a night. See you on Sunday at the Common Sense Cafe 4:00 show.
