Lawdy Mizz Ozzie!!! Now you're taking me back. I adored and idolized the hugely talented Nicolette Larson, one of the greatest voices in country rock the world has ever known. I think one of the things I like about Lucy so much is that at times I hear faint echoes of Nicolette in her phrasing, her emotion. I miss Nicolette terribly. But we've got her records, haven't we though? >> Oh, records is right! - I only replaced her debut on CD, but I have all of her vinyl albums safely stored away on the top shelf of my hall closet. I remember being informed of her death, on the Dar-list of all places, last year and absolutely breaking down - but then it seemed a fitting place to find out after all (thanks, Tom...). She didn't write many (if any) of her songs, but Ron's right in that her delivery was virtually unmatched - plus I always loved the tunes she chose to cover (Sam Cooke's You Send Me was soooo smooth... not to mention Neil Young's Lotta Love). I was lucky enough to see her live in '79 in Atlanta at a tiny bar/club (Steve Forbert opened for her) and when I *just* saw Karla Bonoff again last year, she sang Goodbye, Old Friend and dedicated it to Nicolette. We have more than the records - we have the memories... :-) Susan ------------------------------ End of lucy-list-digest V1 #171 ******************************* This has been a posting from the Lucy Kaplansky mail list digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe lucy-list-digest" in the body of the message
