The story also documents how difficult things got--creatively I suppose, as well as otherwise--between the three women. One big EGO CLASH I suspect. A shame, too, because some of the music on this record is quite amazing. Apparently it wasn't quite the sense of sorority/fraternity that Cry Cry Cry has operated under. Proves a wise old axiom: Folkies may not be rich or famous, but they sure are congenial (axiom mine). Lawdy Mizz Ozzie!!! Now you're taking me back. I adored and idolized the hugely talented Nicolette Larson, one of the greatest voices in country rock the world has ever known. I think one of the things I like about Lucy so much is that at times I hear faint echoes of Nicolette in her phrasing, her emotion. I miss Nicolette terribly. But we've got her records, haven't we though? Hey Folks, I sent this off to the Strawberry list the other day. Since Emmylou's come up here over the past few days, I thought I'd send my comments here, for anyone interested: We caught Emmylou and Linda Ronstat Saturday in Reno, and thought I'd share. Wow. Well, kinda wow. Emmylou was awesome, gorgeous, and charming as ever, *and* she had most of Spyboy in tow (I recognized Buddy Miller, wasn't sure about the rest of the band make up). The Eagle's Bernie Leadon is also on tour with them. They played pretty much all of "Western Wall" (some great covers of John Hiatt's "Icy Blue Heart", Jackson Browne's "For a Dancer", Roseanne Cash's "Western Wall", etc. and some nice stuff off "Trio II" -- actually, songs that appeared both on TII and Ronstadt's "Feels Like Home"). Because they're voices are so different, they harmonize beautifully together -- even moreso live than on the albums. Besides, Emmylou threw in "Born to Run" *and* sang "Orphan Girl" (hey, once a singer does your favorite song live, everything else is gravy). I'm not sure a casino was the best venue, audience-wise, in hindsight. Folks in the front had been drinking and talked loudly. The couple next to us mumbled "I thought they were gonna play old stuff" and left early. All I could think was "Gee, these two women just made two albums of music together... Do you really think Ronstadt wants to be obligated to drag out 'That'll Be the Day' again?" I kinda expected the new stuff." ;) If I did want to be nit-picky, I could mention that this was only the second night of their tour, so you'd expect a few rough spots. Seems like maybe Ronstat hasn't toured in awhile. Her voice sounds great, and she can still belt 'em out, but she forgot her queues more than a few times (once Emmylou had to jump in and finish a song for her). Still, that's being a little nit picky. Still, these two women sound awesome together, and this is gonna be a fairly short tour, from what I read. They're playing San Francisco and Villa Montalvo this week. I think they're doing Bumbershoot up in Seattle this weekend (but we're all busy, right?) ;) Catch this if you can. - - Michael ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 01 Sep 1999 11:09:06 PDT From: "sharon g" Subject: [lucy-list] turn the lights back on from my attendance at a few lucy K shows since jan i've heard alot about the origins of this song- initally lucy was saying it was written for an ex-therapist listen carefully- it also can be written for a number of other relationship as Dr K herself says sorry jessica i cant go to ELH who ever mentioned the full figured blonde- remember she penned "i will always love you" whitney i think had a hit with it. she has a career that had spanned 30 if not almost 40 years she is a master songwriter, business woman and is great on harmonies- i may not fancy her but she's the most honest woman i've seen interviewed why don t ya start on linda rondstadt too- so she gained some weight btw: the emmy lou/LR cd grows on ya- what voices sharonG ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 1 Sep 1999 16:09:33 -0400 (EDT) From: witch baby Subject: [lucy-list] emmylou at the beacon (nlc) all righty! who's a-goin' with me? jessica - ------------------------------jns4470@is.nyu.edu---------------------------- I can't remember if we said goodbye. - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 1 Sep 1999 17:25:23 EDT From: Steeleye99@aol.com Subject: Re: [lucy-list] A Nod To Nicolette Ron, Just to let you know, Nicolette has a new best of collection just released.
