We shouldn't give away too much, watch the show to see if there was any Lucy covers, and find out what Julia called Kelly! Only about 100 people in the studio for Kelly. The later show, Sheryl Crow doors opened 10:30, (supposed to be 8:45) show went on until 1 AM, at least 300 people packed in the studio. Sheryl was good but not like Kelly was. The Kelly Willis show was the 2nd time this week I sat next to a Lucy list member. I did Tuesday at Jill Sobule. Jill invited me on stage to hold her lyrics then asked me if I wanted to song a song with her. I wish I'd thought of 'ten year night', or anything else, but I panicked and said no and got off stage quickly...maybe next time. One of my favorite local (Westchester NY area) groups is Too Human. They regularly record themselves at gigs and a couple times a year cut "performance CDs" and sell them for $10 or so. Living in California now, it was a fantastic treat to hear Ellen Schwartz's happy voice belting out a 30 min of new songs followed by a smattering of applause. Artists are missing out on a real money making chance! john alvord ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Jul 1999 00:59:19 -0400 From: Jeff Bernstein Subject: [lucy-list] TYN Sighting Just back from seeing Bob Dylan and Paul Simon at Jones Beach. I was very disappointed, but I think that's mostly in contrast to the wonderful time we had and wonderful music we heard at FRFF last week. "Ten Year Night" *was* played, and this is not a sharon goof. Paul Simon opened, and Bob Dylan came out during his encore and they did a few songs together. After that there was a break to change the set for Dylan, and the first song played over the sound system was TYN! Later I realized that it was probably because Larry Campbell was playing guitar with Dylan. But what a surprise to hear it at a Dylan/Simon concert.
