Timothy Bruce" Subject: [lucy-list] Winnipeg posting chopped-up I don't know why, but my posting yesterday about Winnipeg got so chopped-up that a couple of portions were unintelligible. Just an aside: Despite the fact that it rained HARD from 6:00 PM until 8:00 AM (14 hours!) on the opening days of the festival, it still broke its own attendance record and attendance went over 100,000. Next year, let's see Lucy up on the mainstage and more of YOU out in the crowd. The whole four day festival cost only about $55 (earlybird) plus $10 for camping. Here's one of the sections that made absolutely NO sense without the missing pieces. I bet quite a few of you can say "Been there, dumb that!" ...Steve (Forbert) was practically lying down he was so relaxed. I figured he might be getting some kind of therapy so I decided to let them chat while I waited my "turn". Then suddenly he cried "(expletive!) I'm supposed to be on Stage 2 at five!" and it WAS five! Only goes to show, no matter how "big" you are, you'll still be reduced to a blubbering fool around Lucy when you finally get your few minutes of direct light from her! My turn was no different. The evening closed with a spectacular display of the northern lights... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Jul 1999 22:07:53 -0400 From: "Benay Bubar" Subject: [lucy-list] finally posting after long-time lurking Hi, everyone---I've been receiving messages from the list since its inception but (she says with great guilt) have not posted anything until now. I met some of the New York contingent, at least briefly, at last night's Fez show (I was out of town for the other show last week...sigh), and it was nice to be able to match some names with faces...but it's only fair that I should introduce myself here after all this time. So hi, I'm Benay. I get the feeling I'm a relative neophyte as a Lucy fan, since I've only been going to her shows for about a year---I've seen her three times by herself and three times with Cry Cry Cry, all in the NYC area (I live in Queens). Like a number of people, I was a Dar Williams fan first and discovered Lucy through Cry Cry Cry, but if I had known about Lucy earlier, I definitely would have become a fan earlier. I can happily listen to her music for hours (and often do...she's perfect on long bus trips). Of course, seeing her live is best---I finally heard her do "The Ballad of Mary Magdalene" for the first time last night, and I agree with what I remember someone's saying here once: her version is the best. I loved last night's Fez concert, but equally exciting was the fact that later (thanks entirely to Paul's helpful advice on the subject) I was FINALLY able to play the hidden track on "Flesh and Bone." After long frustration and the depressed certainty that I had either a defective CD or a defective CD player, I was absolutely delighted to be able to hear the song at last! Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself. I will try to become a more frequent participant here! Best wishes to you all.
