I have a Julie Millar CD called "He Walks Through Walls" and "Broken things" is on this CD. It IS the song that Lucy Kaplanski sang on this tour, and having heard the original, Juliet Turner's, and LK's versions I'm looking forward to LK's new album! Her guitar arrangemnet was wonderful. It is one of those songs that politely grabs something inside you and makes you listen! Anyway, this CD is on the MYRRH label, and it's number is MYRCD 6928. It is dated 1991. This CD is from the loosely defined "Christian Music" culture, and you may have more chance of getting it in a shop that carries christian stuff than in a local CD shop. The MYRRH label is exclusively christian, as far as I know. I got the CD a few years ago, but I think a friend got one more recently. Happy hunting! I remember owning an album by Jimmy Webb (I probably still have it) where I throught he wrote all the songs, a sort of Jimmy Webb does Jimmy Webb. But obviously "Love Hurts" was written by someone else. He did indeed write some great tunes, so he need not be given credit for something he didn't write. Better to credit the genuine author. Actually, Jimmy's "cover" of that B & B song was pretty darn good as I recall. However, now you are working on changing your last name to "Standing Corrected?" I must tell you that I am rather concerned that the end result of all of this name changing may well be something that could possibly have an affect on your writing and, therefore, I respectfully ask you to cease and desist from this behavior. If there is anyone who has missed Ron's great(and beautifully written) review of Ten Year Night and his fabulous (and also beautifully written) cover article about Lucy in the latest Music Matters Review, you have missed reading something that you should not have missed. This man must be freed of his apparent need to change his name so frequently--he is way too talented a writer. From: "David Steere" Subject: Lucy Kaplansky Joins the Crowded Field I hope the "caretaker of the contests" will consider expanding the field this year from the 10 best of 1999 to at least the 15 best or better yet the 20 best. After all, it's not even the end of June and extraordinary albums keep making themselves known. I know I'm a bit late (due primarily to a lost package in the mail) but I must sing praises for Lucy Kaplansky's TEN YEAR NIGHT. I've long been fond of her non-traditionally beautiful voice and wonderful ability to harmonize. Her contribution to Cry, Cry, Cry is quite exceptional. TEN YEAR NIGHT seems her best effort yet--very strong on singing and harmony (Gorka, Shindell, Kimball) but unexpectedly wonderful in the songwriting. One beautiful, original song after another, generally low-key but always moving. Three songs, especially, deserve the highest praise. Many good songs have been penned about the nomadic, frustrating life of the singer/songwriter. Lucy's "Promise Me" joins the very best of those, making the issues new: "Listen for me when I'm away. I'll be singing to you." "Just You Tonight" celebrates the special connection and understanding in the simplest terms: "It's just you, you tonight. And the music you heard in me somehow." Best of all is the title tune. I still get goosebumps from it, feel the wash of strong emotions and simply cannot but move around the room and across the floor everytime I play "Ten Year Night." It's a musical catharsis: "Open your eyes and look at me 'cause I have and hold this love for you. Before this ten year night is through, I'm telling you, take it from me..." Personal love songs simply don't get any better. Three cheers for Lucy.
