I see from the listing that she's playing with John Gorka. The S.F. Chronicle listing seems to suggest that Lucy's opening for John. Is this true? Or is it one of those co-headliner type of things? No offense to Mr. Gorka, but I'd feel bad going to see just 20 minutes or so of Lucy (I know, I know, "20 minutes of Lucy is better than 2 hours of a lot of people"). Anybody have the details on this show? - ---------------------------------------------- Bob Phelps rcphelps@pacbell.net - ---------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Jun 1999 06:47:35 -0700 From: Susan Krauss Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Lucy/Gorka in S.F. I think it's a co-show (each doing half). They're both appearing at the Kate Wolf Festival the day before. I'm sure they'll sing together too since they've been friends forever. I'm a huge John Gorka fan and a huge Lucy Kaplansky fan and I'm looking forward to seeing them at the Festival. I hope to get to the Great American Music Hall but it's Lesbian/Gay Pride Day in San Francisco and I may be too exhausted after the festival Saturday and the Parade on Sunday to make it to the club. susan At 01:01 PM 6/13/99 -0700, you wrote: >Okay, I'm a little bit slow on this one, but I finally noticed the listing >for Lucy's 6/27 show at the Great American Music Hall in S.F. The show was absolutely terrific. When Cliff introduced "Memphis" (which he sang just beautifully) he (and Cheryl) said hi to their great friend Lucy Kaplansky ("LucyKa" I think it was that they said) who just happened to be in the audience. After Cliff sang, John brought Lucy up to sing "Blue Chalk" with him. Cliff, Cheryl, and Patty all sat to the side in chairs --all in a row kind of like an audience of kids-- with their legs crossed tightly as if they were at some sort of a school function. Very funny actually. In any event, listening to Lucy sing with John was like hearing some sort of a small revelation as to just how beautiful two voices can sound together. It was the first time I have heard them sing together at a show. Wow....This is a sound you will be privileged to hear. I am very jealous.... When I lived in New York, they used to perform together for a song or two at the annual Fast Folk Nights at the Bottom Line. I've seen Summer's Eve/Winter's Night tour a bunch of times too. I'm disappointed it's not coming west. I saw Cheryl & Cliff a few weeks ago and I see Patty and John and Lucy whenever they're here too (which isn't often enough since they're east coast based (well John's in Minneapolis). Lucy comes out a bit more since her parents are in Berkeley. susan ------------------------------ End of lucy-list-digest V1 #102 ******************************* This has been a posting from the Lucy Kaplansky mail list digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe lucy-list-digest" in the body of the message
