Knockout, a great gig! If you live in Belfast, go tonight, you will not be disappointed Walter - ----- Original Message ----- From: John Middleton To: Sent: 29 May 1999 10:31 Subject: [lucy-list] The UK tour: Lucy plays Bristol > Playing the wrong venue, staying in the wrong hotel, and with hardly any pre-concert promotion behind her, things were not looking good for Lucy. But Doctor K sprinkled some of her Lucy dust over the 70 or so people who managed to combine the persistence of Mulder and Scully with whatever got into Richard Dreyfus in Close Encounters of the Third Kind to make it to The Bristol Flyer last night. > > And she was absolutely brilliant - warm, open, accessible, charming (to the point that a member of the audience bought and delivered a drink to her mid-set when she mentioned that she was thirsty), funny, moving, and on great musical form. > > Lucy is still trying to build some kind of fan base in the UK and it is fair to say that most people there weren't that familiar with her stuff. Maybe for that reason she tended to stick to her core repertoire (Ten year night, The tide, Turn the lights back on, Good Night) with a couple of Cry3 tracks thrown in (Speaking with the Angel, By way of sorrow). Having said that, she gave us a wonderful version of Loudon Wainright's Swimming Song, and even performed a couple of her dad's songs - one called That's Mathematics (to the tune of That's Entertainment) and another that he wrote on his honeymoon on some kind of romance-in-space theme. > > We loved her. She said she would come back again. Had a good chat with husband Rick at the end. Nice guy, who was carrying a camcorder around with him. Who knows, maybe one day we'll all get to see the UK Tour documentary! > ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 1 Jun 1999 08:59:30 EDT From: SteadyOnDC@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] Re: lucy-list-digest V1 #93 Jeff G writes: << What are the chances of a concert video? I think that would be INCREDIBLE! >> Filmboy Rick Litvin is DA MAN for this. I'm sure he already has his own personal stash of Lucy Live in Concert footage. Perhaps if we bug him enough he will share it with us someday---in the form of a video sold at her shows or sumthin'. Right next to the tee shirts, posters, etc. Such merchandising could get Lucy her very own fancy Rock Star type tour bus and a travelling band....and Rick could have his very own film crew. ; ) Just a thought, Denise C. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 1 Jun 1999 20:06:57 +0100 From: "Kay Melmoth" Subject: [lucy-list] Lucy plays London Hi, I just joined this list. Just to say that Lucy was great in London on Saturday night. May she return again soon! I'm just home from seeing LK playing Belfast tonight. Despite a strange layout it was a great concert, I've never seen her live before. It was a small venue with about 120 people or so. She did a beautiful version of "Broken Things" by Julie Millar which for me was probably the highlight of the night, the guitar work was special in this song. I hope she plays in this city again!
