Greetings folks... This is 1/3 of "The Chicago Contingent" checking in from back home... It was worth the 3.5 hour drive to hear both Lucy and Jennifer Kimball give a completely hair-raising show. Rehearsal Studios appears superficially to be the most unlikely place to hear the most fantastically clear sound at a concert I've ever experienced. Hats off to Mark (concert coordinator) and George, "the sound guy" for providing an amazing concert experience. The place looks like a warehouse hangar, but looks are deceiving... Kelli will probably check in with the set list as we tried to reconstruct it at the (conveniently located) Holiday Inn adjacent to the performing space). We were too entranced to take notes during the show... Lucy is, I think, still adjusting to the fact that folks are driving all over their respective regions to hear her play. A friend of mine in the Pittsburgh area, Karen, saw her at The Rosebud last Thursday, and she told Lucy after the show that some close friends of hers (Karen's) were going to drive down to the Indy show from Chicago. So as Lucy was chatting after the second or third selection, she said she was thrilled to be in Indianapolis and that she'd never been there before, ever, and that she was from Chicago. Of course, the Chicago Contingent Trio let out a well-rounded whoop. And she was completely amazed that we were there. Of course, she thought it was an 18-hour drive or something. But no matter, she seemed completely amazed we'd bother (doesn't she get it yet?) Another completely disarming moment came when she started to grind into the great intro to "Turn the Lights Back On..." We started applauding at the first couple of guitar strums, to which she abruptly stops and says something like "Do you know what I am going to play? Are you sure?, maybe it's going to be another song..." It's hard to put into words, but she is so authentic, and it was so rewarding to see her up there being so comfortable sharing these incredibly personal stories about her life experiences... The crowd was so cool and appreciative too. And really, it is about the music and how it draws folks together. It was absolutely wonderful to meet Richard (Champaign, IL), Pat (Cincinnati?), and locals who I don't think are on the list, but I'll name them anyway, Terry and Jeannine. They made us feel right at home... and I forget the name of the fellow (Doug?) I was talking to at the Merch table, and was telling him about the hidden track on "Flesh & Bone." Hope you were able to get your car CD player to "find" it... Vibe productions is planning to have Richard Shindell and Lynn Miles on a double bill this coming fall, so make sure you keep your eyes and ears open. We're already planning a return visit. Hoosier hospitality is alive and well in the capitol city of Indiana... kind regards, Bill ------------------------------ End of lucy-list-digest V1 #67 ****************************** This has been a posting from the Lucy Kaplansky mail list digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe lucy-list-digest" in the body of the message
