I was at that Cry Cry Cry concert, at First Night Oakland, New Jersey, last New Year's Eve. For some technical reason Cry Cry Cry started late--therefore ended late. (I wouldn't have expected Cry Cry Cry to shorten their performance-- the auditorium was packed with their fans.) When Kreskin came on, he was clearly upset and made some comments that approached nastiness. Kreskin's poor attitude influenced us to leave in the middle of his act. (I was put off by Kreskin's comments but, because he didn't get on stage until after 11 pm on New Year's Eve, I suppose he had some justification for being upset. It's just that it wasn't Cry Cry Cry's fault.) So, what was Kreskin's funny prediction? We went and found the small room where Lynn Miles and Buddy Mondlock were playing - <> better entertainment over there! A couple of comments on the audiences: 1) It was the Cry, Cry, Cry audience that paid the "big bucks" to see them. Kreskin was just one of many acts that were included in the (lower) price of the rest of the evening's entertainment. (The higher price for Cry, Cry, Cry included admission to everything else.) And for anyone wondering this "higher" price was still extremely reasonable; $20.00 per ticket; I believe. 2) There were a lot more people in the auditorium for C-3 than there were for Kreskin (especially by the end)! I did not hear it, but apparently Kreskin's prediction was the the group would not exist anymore a few years into the future. (Ha ha!) Hi everyone Just a short introduction as I'm new to the list (although a Darlister of almost 3 years)..I've been following the list for a while now, and this seems like a good time to jump in........ I'm 28 and live in Shrewsbury, England and came upon Lucy's work via the Dar list about a year ago....it seems like a low risk strategy following recommendations from other lists, I've come across some great music that way. I have a company called Fish Records (www.fishrecords.co.uk), we sell singer/songwriter, contemporary folk and acoustic music from both the US and the UK, and ship all over the World. I'm sure everyone already has or has ordered their copies of "Ten Year Night", but if there are any UK or European listers who need to get hold of a copy, we are taking pre orders now, the price is £12.99 (Sterling). Contact me for ordering details or they are listed on the website. For those interested Cry Cry Cry has now been released in the UK, although there is very little publicity for it, it's running with no promotional ads whatsoever......ah well, at least I'm trying ! And now, the freebie !, I was sent an advance promo copy and a press sheet back in early Feb for Ten Year Night, the press sheet has mis-spelt Lucy's name as "Lucy Kaplasky" in the main heading on the page. If anyone would like this, just drop me an email and I'll post it out to you (no charge), it's just gathering dust in my office and I'm sure someone would like to add this to their collection. (in the event of lots of people wanting it, I'll just pick someone at random). It's just one A4 sheet, with few pictures and text, standard fare that is sent out to retailers really, but you're more than welcome to it. I'm from Bensalem and got hooked onto WXPN in high school, thru my mom ;) Thanks to them I have been introduced to some pretty cool music including Dar Williams which led to Lucy Kaplansky, who I saw at the Cry3 concert in Keswick. Awesome concert. Good to see you're supporting XPN and lets try to get some Lucy on there! My mail order from Red House arrived today, and a frustrating and aggravating Monday has been completely turned around! I'm so glad I didn't wait for the stores to get it in - this is a wonderful CD! I understand this was recorded "live" in the studio, which is ordinarily quite a challenge - but then again this is no ordinary band. I've heard Lucy play all but a couple of these songs in concert, and the tempo and phrasing is a little different on "Turn the Lights Back On" and "One Good Reason," but I'm gradually getting used to the CD versions. I've been bummed ever since I had to miss Lucy in St Louis last month, and it doesn't look like she's coming anywhere near here (Tulsa) anytime soon, so unless I can manage to make to one or the other coasts I'll just have to be patient. But at least I now have TYN with which to console myself :) Bill ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Mar 1999 20:59:31 -0500 From: Phil Kalina <76106.566@compuserve.com> Subject: [lucy-list] Re^2: Kreskin In-Reply-To: patrick t power's message of 15 Mar 1999 19:30:14 -0500 (est) patrick t power wrote: >... >Hmmm . . . you're the second person to tell me about the First Night >Oakland gig.
