They have several artists who are releasing new CDs at the moment -- one to look for is Dave Moore's new one, his first in a number of years -- and because of their attempts to support tours with media press kits, I'm sure that they're swamped. I would guess that they're getting an inordinate number of orders for Lucy's CD as well. By the way . . . Lucy will be in East Lansing in two days! And, boy, "luck" may just be going Ms. Lucy's way. Which reminds me to encourage y'all to get your hands on the *SOLO: Women Singer-Songwriters...* book. Whoever said there's more to the whole Shawn-Lucy thing is right; I'm sure there is a lot more to the story, most of which is none of our beeswax, but part of which is illuminated in this book. Frankly, Lucy's story is what shoved me to see her show last fall. I can identify with her so much, if what *SOLO* tells is accurate. Trying to choose one's path in the journey of life is very tough sometimes. Often we put up blinders for various reasons, very frequently "fear" of whatever-you-choose-here. Anyway, as one who has recently accepted what I always really knew was my "calling" in life (teaching middle-schoolers... who knew?), I am most thrilled for Lucy's new snowballing (or so it appear to me, a slightly biased individual ;D ) success. God knows she deserves it --and has (had) plenty'o'student loans to pay off! ~Kelli ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Mar 1999 09:25:54 -0500 From: "Tawni T. Maybe I am just toooo anxious, but I ordered TYN by phone, last Wednesday, (3/3), at lunchtime, (1-2 pm). I requested the "first class" shipping. They,(Red House), are in St. Paul, Minn., (of course!), and I live in Central Ohio. Tomorrow will be one week since I placed the order. Question: How long did it take for those of you list-ers, who already have the CD, (and ordered it from R.H.), to receive it, after placing the order??!! THANKS!!! Brian M. Marc Woodworth, the editor and interviewer for SOLO, is a really easy person to talk to, so I think we can accept what Lucy and anyone else says at face value. That's what makes the book so wonderful. It's not a collection of media interviews that are stilted in a specific direction, but as the title says, it is these women in their own words. If people are wondering, I know Marc (and Emma Dodge Hanson, the photographer, to some extent) through being involved in the english department at Skidmore, where he works as an editor on Salmagundi, a quarterly journal of criticism and other esoterica. He's also the faculty advisor for Lively Lucy's Coffeehouse. 'later, jeff. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . "I'm not a great big visionary, George. I'm a sentence-maker. As you may know, we were in the middle of a healthy snowstorm that night. Many other events were cancelled including all the local bingo games (darn!), sports contests and other concerts in town. My sister and I walked in to the Peace & Justice Store Saturday afternoon to hear the clerk discussing ticket refunds on the phone. We were so disappointed! Fortunately, it turned out that this was for someone who was unable to travel to the concert due to the weather. You could feel the excitement building from the brief line forming outside the church as we filed in. Several folks had arrived by skis (a smart idea, considering the status of the local streets!) and lots of us felt rather bold for venturing out in the snowy night. James Keelaghan was great - his set was just the right length and he was well received by the audience. He spoke of being stranded on the NY State Thruway on Thursday, which struck a chord with my sister & I since she'd spent four hours in the same standstill on her drive from Buffalo. C3 played every song on their album, plus several more together and their one solo song each. It was a treat to hear February, Ten Year Night and Next Best Western with the other two accompanying the lead singer. The encores were great, especially Richard's verse of Johnny Cash's Cry,Cry, Cry. I'm no country fan but Richard was channeling the man in black during that one! I don't know if I've ever left a concert so totally satisfied with a performance rather than wishing they'd played just one more favorite. I'm sure the weather contributed to the mood for both the performers and the audience -- everyone was having a great time throughout and the crowd was certainly appreciative of the variety of music heard. Hilights for me included getting a C3 pin, hearing IKWKOLTI (after reading that they didn't always sing it), hearing Wilder Than Her live, the between song banter, and the incredible energy that all 3 of them had onstage. I understand why Richard said several weeks ago that playing solo was kind of lonely. The camaraderie was infectious Saturday night. I could gush on and on but I think you get the point. For those who think this tour is getting stale, you should have been there Saturday night. Don't be dissuaded from seeing these guys if they're coming to your town soon!
