Firstly, I live in Chicago & am gleefully anticipating Lucy's show at Schuba's in t-minus 10 days. :) Am I rational when I think that I might be able to purchase the new cd there? I'm weighing the speed of the USPO (ordering via 800#) vs waiting for the show. Second, I first got interested in Lucy after reading *Women Singer-Songwriters* (the quickest read for me in a really long time.) That was when I realized how much Lucy I already had in my collection (I've seen Shawn Colvin at least 8 times & have great interest in her also, not to mention my John Gorka collection.) Last fall, she played a gig at FitzGerald's outside Chicago, and it was totally wonderful. Not a big crowd (which I kinda perfer), not too much smoke. And she was amazing. Is is me, or can one see how she and Shawn influenced each other's singing and guitar styles? I haven't been as impressed w/guitar technique since, except for Patty Larkin (and *she* and pick!!) As for Cry^3. Wow. Saw them do a double header in January. Fabulous! The second show was a tad better (if such a comparison could be made)... they'd warmed up a bit. If this is what it means to be "harmony whores", I wanna be one too. :) They are so gosh-darn good. I had heard Dar twice before (opening for Joan Baez, then w/Richard opening for her)... felt old at the latter concert ...and I'm only 27. ;) Also saw Richard last fall do a solo gig at Schuba's. One might not truly appreciate him until you've heard him sing "May," imho. Now for my interrogation of y'all (I'm a Nebraska native): 1. Does anyone know about the Lucy-Announcements- list? I'm most curious about the email address lucy responds to. Is it listed on her website somewhere? I've overlooked it. 2. Anyone else going to Rocky Folks Fest this year? In addition to Cry^3, also Mary Chapin, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Janis Ian, & Susan Werner, among others, are to perform. 3. Anyone have ponderings about the perfect concert? A dream concert for me: Lucy, Shawn, & Chapin. Triple-billed, Richard opening & joining in. Equal time for solos & jams. No curfew. Oh, and a limited capacity audience of, oh, 200 of my nearest & dearest kindred-music-loving spirits. :) ~Kelli ************************************************************************* To unsubscribe from the Lucy Kaplansky mailing list, send a a message to majordomo@smoe.org with the text "unsubscribe lucy-list" in the body of the message. ************************************************************************* ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Mar 1999 14:07:14 -0500 From: "Brittany King" Subject: [lucy-list] intro/columbus/ramblings Hey everyone! I have purchased my 4 tickets to the columbus show, although i don't know who i'm taking yet. I'm from cincinnati, so i'll be doing some driving. Does anyone know anything about the venue size, etc.? I'd really like to know because it is general admission. I listen to lucy everyday in the car, at home, and my mom even loves her now too. I was lucky and got to meet her at crycrycry in columbus which was a wonderful show. she is such a wonderful inspiration to me and i'm really happy there is now a list! c'yas lata brittany http://royalgoddess.com kingb29@idt.net ************************************************************************* To unsubscribe from the Lucy Kaplansky mailing list, send a a message to majordomo@smoe.org with the text "unsubscribe lucy-list" in the body of the message. ************************************************************************* ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Mar 1999 16:10:39 EST From: Lilypie12@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] Lucy's CD cover Hi, This is my first post to the Lucy list. I've been a fan for about 2 1/2 years. I first saw Lucy at the Tin Angel in Phila. I have seen her there a number of times, plus, and this is a really big plus....my friends Jodi and Paula had her appear at their house concert in NJ, not once but two times! She was wonderful. I got her new CD TEN YEAR NIGHT just a few days ago. I am really enjoying it. My only complaint is her CD cover. Jodi has photos of her that she took and they are gorgeous! I just wonder if anyone else was bothered by the fact that Lucy looks ten times better in person than on the CD cover. What was she thinking? Get a new photographer. I am assuming that both the "World Cafe" and "Mountain Stage" Cry3 appearances aired in syndication, all over the country this weekend, (3/5-7/99). I really enjoyed both performances, as well as the individual performances on the "Mountain Stage" program. But, due to the fact that I live in a somewhat "low" area, and due to owning a good stereo with a not-so-good radio receiver, I was forced to listen on my portable AM/FM/Shortwave radio. Therefore, I was unable to record either program for my collection. Did anyone "roll tape" of either or both of these programs??!! THANKS!! I first heard about Lucy when she was singing back up for Nanci Griffith, many years ago. I saw "The Tide" listed in a mail order catalog when it first came out and took a chance. I liked it a lot, and soon after I bought it, my wife and I got to see Ms. K. at the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley (CA). Lucy's parents live in Berkeley, and a highlight of the show was Lucy singing with her Dad accompanying her on piano, on the famous Pi song and the Asteroid song. We've seen Lucy three times now, counting once with Cry3 at the Great American Music Hall. If people are still looking for a list identity, my suggestions is: Fans of Lucy Kaplansky, a/k/a FOLKs. Unless I missed a subtle point (more likely than not), someone implied that "The Thief" and "End of the Day" were (at least in part) about Shawn Colvin. I find this a bit surprising, since Shawn produced "The Tide." Anybody know anything about this?
