How's the Chuck Berry? Does the Aimee Mann succeed in rehabbing soft rock? Pondering the implications of rehabbing soft rock, Andy "Actually I'm not sure if you people are joking. This band is one of my favorite Avant-Garde-style Prog Rock bands. Notice how they manage to stay close with the polyrhythmics (the guitarist plays a quarter note before the bassist and changes to higher tempo in the solo, the drummer and rhythm guitarist play in 7/8 and 9/8 for each two bars, etc), and every bar the time signature changes (4/4 in the first bar but then suddenly 15/16, 5/4, 33/32, 13/16 and so on, respectively). The singer also adds psychedelia to the song by singing also the delay vocals. The backing vocals in the second verse are changed to make fascinating dissonance with the dominant key. Also notice that the drummer uses only the ride cymbal throughout the song, which shows his technical virtuoso abilities. After the solo, the singer modulates his singing 3/4-step up, which makes reference to arab music, but the band stays the same. Truly, I find these guys so pioneering, they're like 20 years ahead of their time.o;?" - --Yann Selka, providing a play-by-play to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jj7pDNDuoJ0 On Wed, Jul 5, 2017 at 12:42 PM, Tom Galczynski wrote: > I don't have a completely different list from before, but at least I can get > 10 now! ;-) : > > shins - heartworms > blondie - pollinator > new pornographers - whiteout conditions > chuck berry - chuck > slowdive - s/t > paul weller - a kind revolution > robyn hitchcock - s/t > aimee mann - mental illness > surfer blood - snowdonia > stef chura - messes > > > On 7/4/2017 2:00 PM, Andrew Hamlin . wrote: >> >> That's right folks, I actually have a completely different list from >> three months ago! Chuck is quite solid also, much like Rockit. Aimee is very much Aimee only moreso if that makes sense. Excellent songs but don't listen to them all in one sitting. ;-) Sent from my Virgin Mobile Phone. - ------ Original message------From: Andrew Hamlin .Date: Fri, Jul 7, 2017 6:19 PMTo: the sort of thing most people never give a second thought;Cc: Subject:Re: [loud-fans] 2017: At the half I like the Blondie!
