She had a new one out earlier in the year that I thought was pretty meh (precisely my reaction to most of her output over the last decade, however) but SILVER BELL, the album she recorded after FLAMING RED and which was held hostage by a record label on account of not being "commercial" enough (though a couple of its songs were recorded by the Dixie Chicks for one of their bazillion-selling albums), is finally getting a legit release later this month. How do you rate an album that you heard over ten years ago that is only finally seeing the light of day, anyway? Ranking it on a year-end list feels kinda wrong, but it doesn't exactly qualify as a "Best Reissue" either, does it? "Best Finally Issued," perhaps? Thank you Jer for this. You just made my day. I love Silver Bell so much, even as I like what Patty's done ever since. Do you know the exact release date? Andrea And it feels so strange to post like this, too used to Facebook and Twitter to remember the old days of email, LOL. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Oct 2013 19:40:07 -0400 From: Jer Fairall Subject: Re: [loud-fans] 2013: And that's the horn for the end of the third quarter... The highs aren't as high (though "Dance Apocalyptic" approaches the level of "Tightrope" or "Cold War") but the trade-off is that it also features fewer of the "experimental" moments that made me antsy whenever I tried to slog all the way through the last one. Still too long, perhaps, but program out the radio skits (which are short, and thus not all that intrusive anyway) and I think you have a more solid record than THE ARCHANDROID. > Patty Griffin > But which Patty?!
