[outbound-only email address Subject: [loud-fans] Marine Dreams - holy cr@@! i've been slowly working my way through punknews.org's editors picks for best of 2011, and an hour or so I got to the self-titled release from "Marine Dreams." It's a far cry from the pop-punk, (post)hard/screamocore and occasional roots-rock that makes up most of the list. I wouldn't really call it lo-fi, but it's not a big, expensive production job with everything pushed to the red, sounds a bit retro, but not too self-consciously so. Main man Ian Kehoe has a slightly twangy tenor and a remarkable gift for riffs that evoke late 80's rootsy/power pop a la all those bands Mitch Easter produced at least one record from. On Spotify, but I am buying a copy right now. p.s. Dude's main band, Attack in Black, also new to me, also seems pretty awesome so far. ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V10 #97 *******************************
