Andy Q: The Clash were kind of the whipping boys for post-punkers, weren't they? They represented the relapse into traditional rock'n'roll and American musical values. A: Yes, PiL to me made more interesting music than the Clash. I only ever owned the Clash's first album, as I'm sure many people only ever owned the Raincoats' first album--that initial splash of energy was very much the signature of the time. - --The Raincoats' Gina Birch, interviewed by Simon Reynolds for Reynolds' book "Totally Wired: Postpunk Interviews and Overviews" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BB-xMO2zPi4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZkW5LhLwMo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPz_baKEe3U&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2lypL7vksI&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wZczFrlBXM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJHYrWo3oTY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JqggoopK44 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TExJUAuBuE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_3gkc9oHxY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNL8aAw6IQA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNL8aAw6IQA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAlS-FH4rlM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXqZfweMJQo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2wPmSPQbJc&playnext=1&list=PLF025AAF53AB360E9 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMTLICBshLM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CeJSfWYXUA8&feature=related ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Jul 2011 22:56:01 -0600 From: Roger Winston Subject: Re: [loud-fans] 2011: (halfway through) halftime Where did this message come from? Is this some kind of Internet mailing list or something? Do those things even exist any more? Is it like a "blog" or "MySpace"? Haven't heard any of these albums, though I did sample the Eleventh Dream Day one. Used to like them somewhat back in the day, but the new one sounded kinda sludgy and I didn't download it. My favorites of the year so far in no particular order (and I'm still several months behind): The Strokes: Angles The Dears: Degeneration Street Campfire OK: Strange Like We Are Goldenboy: Sleepwalker The Rainmakers: 25 On John Vanderslice: White Wilderness Telekinesis: 12 Desperate Straight Lines Spoons: Static In Transmission Latre. --Rog On Mon, Jul 18, 2011 at 6:53 PM, Andrew Hamlin wrote: > Sorry for the lateness on the halftime update.
