Amazing song that harkens back to the heyday of Motown, yet is completely modern. Great video too. Probably not my favorite song of the year though. That honor goes to "Newport News" off the latest Pernice album. Speaking of Pernice: "Goodbye Killer" is so far and away my album of the year, it's ridiculous. I remember, years ago on this very list, being introduced to the mighty Pernice. My first impression was that they had a severe case of midtempo-itis. I always wondered what they would sound like if they ever pulled out the stops. Oh boy - do we know now and it's nothing short of breathtaking. There have been some other things that I've enjoyed this year, and indeed recently, but this is head and shoulders above the rest.I was also encouraged that there were murmurings on the Ashmont mailing list that they may be recording again so soon after, though I've not checked for an update any time recently, so hopefully we won't need to wait so long for the next Pernice instalment. - --- On Tue, 16/11/10, Douglas Stanley wrote: From: Douglas Stanley Subject: Re: [loud-fans] Ten More To: "loud-fans@smoe.org" , "loud-fans-digest@smoe.org" Date: Tuesday, 16 November, 2010, 15:18 - ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Nov 2010 14:42:48 -0800 From: "Joseph M. If I was desperate to pad the list, though, I'd make a pitch for the recent reissue of Nick Heyward's FROM MONDAY TO SUNDAY. I'm familiar with a lot of Heyward bootlegs, but the ten bonus tracks still feel like hearing an entire lost album from the same era. Only one is an alternative version of the MONDAY line-up, and I don't even mind that it's not the acoustic version of "Kite." ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Nov 2010 19:49:30 -0800 From: Andrew Hamlin Subject: Re: [loud-fans] 17 more new albums I've liked this year, with short descriptions > Rasputina, Sister Kinderhook > (multiple cellos; percussion; and the unsettling, powerful, lovely > and/or jarring, always articulate vocals of Melora Creager, singing > eagerly about odd historical events and myths.
