The Vampire Weekend album is very good. The Spoon album is good. Titus Andronicus does nothing for me, but I think a few on this list enjoy them. I've heard of a handful of the others mentioned but not much of their music. Most of those mentioned are new to me too. Anyone care to enlighten me? Andy, why are you so obsessed with these polls and best-of lists? We have the only poll that counts right here. Anyway, the LCD Soundsystem is amazingly great. My history with them was "ehhhh" toward the debut, and owned but hadn't taken the shrinkwrap off THE SOUND OF SILVER, so I wasn't a fan. But THIS IS HAPPENING has rocketed to the top of my charts, challenging Jason & the Scorchers and our beloved Paula Carino for my top slot. Thanks to Sue Trowbridge for the crucial recommendation that convinced me to pick it up. Spoon's TRANSFERENCE is another jewel in their crown, and would be a contender for my #1 in a year that didn't have the three albums I just mentioned. I have the MIA but haven't given it a listen; don't hate and don't love the MGMT (even though it does contain the third-best song about Brian Eno that I've heard); and that's it for me from that list. You had asked me elsewhere about the new Hank III; I like it, but so far not as much as its two immediate predecessors. First couple of listens I nodded off during the slower stuff instead of being riveted like I was for his earlier ballads like STRAIGHT TO HELL's "Country Heroes" and DAMN RIGHT REBEL PROUD's "Candidate for Suicide." Maybe REBEL WITHIN will grow on me with repeat listens. later, Miles - -- over a year of feeling guilty about not blogging enough! http://readingpronunciation.blogspot.com/ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Jul 2010 17:14:50 -0700 From: "Joseph M. They were a feature of the NYT Popcast this week, and it was striking. The WaPo also had a favorable article this week on them. Not my thing but I can see how it'd have some appeal.
