I didn't know Immaculate Machine had broken up! Bummer. Looking forward to listening to Kathyrn's solo album - it's in the queue. Calder is such a little cutie. Saw the New Pornos last night in Denver - good show. Full house. [spoiler alert] Surprisingly, they did not do "Letter From An Occupant". I bet a lot of people were pissed, though I didn't really care that much. All 9 (!) band members were there, including Case and Bejar. I still love how Bejar just kind of wanders in and out as he pleases, beer in hand. Imaad Wasif didn't do anything for me. Trying too hard to be heavy metal or something. The Dodos were better - I was already familiar with them from an album I have. Although their live sound is different from what I remember of the record. Even the on-stage banter (minimal though it was) was inaudible. Extremely disappointing. And what made it even MORE disappointing was that Bejar and Case were there and it seemed like the songs were picked to maximize Case's contributions (with the glaring exception of "...Occupant"). Argh. I talked with some folks in the parking lot afterwards and they said they were at the Vampire Weekend show a few weeks back and the sound was horrible then. Same thing, vocals lost in the mix. And they were on the floor not up in the balcony as I was. Never going to the Fox again. But it was good to see the entire band for once. ;-) Tom Galczynski tgalczynski@comcast.net - --------------------------------------- As long as you seek for something, you will get the shadow of reality and not reality itself. -- Shunryu Suzuki On 7/29/2010 10:35 AM, Roger Winston wrote: > On Mon, Jul 26, 2010 at 7:16 PM, wrote: > > >> My interview with Kathryn Calder is up at >> http://allaroundrecords.blogspot.com/ >> >> > Thanks, Andrea. I saw the New Pornographers Sunday night at Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa, and the turnout was rather pathetic (the place was half full), but they gave it their all and put on an excellent show. I missed Imaad Wasif, and I didn't love the Dodos. I could appreciate what they were doing, but it's just not my thing. I'd think that they had a nice song going, then the heavy percussion would come in and go on and on and kind of ruin it for me. But that's just me. Enjoyable show, and I'm glad I got to see the whole band (of the NPs, that is). Holly On Jul 29, 2010, at 10:35 AM, Roger Winston wrote: > Calder is such a little cutie. I think you will love her album. And she is a delightful person as well.
