I was never that much of a Go-Go's fan. MB On Sun, Jun 27, 2010 at 3:51 PM, wrote: > Sorry 'bout that. Yes, and a pretty good print as part of the monthly SilverScreamSpookShow at Atlanta's Plaza Theatre. I've had it a couple of weeks and can easily say it's at least their best since "Discover A Lovelier You". I remember - years ago - when I was introduced to them on this very list, my first comment was regarding the seemingly mid-tempo-itis. Well, after all these years, Joe has remedied that. The first two songs are the most rocking things they've ever done. As good as those two songs are, you finally (about the time "Newport News" rolls by) realize that mid-tempo is what they do best. Anyway, highly recommended. Those of us who pre-ordered were sent free copies of the book "Pernice to Me", a compilation of emails and tweets put together by Joe's manager/whipping girl, Joyce Linehan. It is absolutely hilarious and is worth it's purchase price too (but I bet if you asked nice, she might give you one gratis - although, after reading the book, "nice" doesn't seem to be what she responds best to). There's lots to see and do in Atlanta. I miss having the discretionary income to run down there to catch two or three not-coming-to-Nashville tours/art exhibits a year. Not that I'd rather go to Atlanta than NYC, Chicago, or San Francisco, but it's an easy drive from here, and those others aren't. I'm glad it's there, though the current sweltering season isn't the ideal time to visit, particularly for those unaccustomed to the withering heat. later, Miles - -- over a year of feeling guilty about not blogging enough! http://readingpronunciation.blogspot.com/ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Jun 2010 22:27:21 -0400 From: Michael Bowen Subject: Re: [loud-fans] Jonathan Richman question (ns) Yeah, it's a nice, lazy, stupid way to characterize people who don't think Radiohead are the new Beatles. While here, though, I am reminded to once again plug that recent Kevin Dunn compilation CD, since Dunn spent the '80s as the closest thing to another Scott Miller. I'll also look into what became of those Swimming Pool Q's reissues of the A&M albums; I know an established label ready to release them if the band really did get the rights back, and just doesn't want to invest in their own reissue. ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V9 #118 *******************************
