I haven't listened to the CD yet, but I'm looking forward to it. The song has been covered by numerous artists and returned to music charts in 1994 after it was included on the soundtrack for the hit movie "Reality Bites." Ah, yes. I've always had a "mancrush" on both Wynona Ryder (and Matthew Sweet beat us all in the mancrush department with her) and Janeane Garofalo (I even have a hardcover coffee table book simply titled WYNONA that some magazine put out back in the nineties). I felt aged when I saw she had gone from dancing to The Knack with Garofalo in a convenience store to being Spock's mom. I saw Garofalo in an interview a few years back, and she looked emaciated and unhealthy--I hope she's put a few pounds back on since then. The Knack dance scene is a great one which reminds me of the spontanaeity of youth--I had a couple of friend girls who would do things like that at the drop of a hat in public back in my 20s. I wonder if they'd do that now--I don't know, probably not--we've all lost touch being in different parts of the country. As Jonathan Richman sang, we're all "dignified and old" now (he played here last week, but sadly couldn't make it). I always liked that movie--even bought the 10th anniversary DVD reissue when it was released (Stiller looks like a kid in it). It's dated, sure, and manipulative of its target audience, but it has some great moments, and some great lines ("Look, my little unemployed waif...")--I just wish that Ethan Hawke wasn't allowed to "sing" in it--oy. That's not a man-crush unless Winona and Janeane are secretly men (see the Wikipedia entry that Andy linked to a few days ago). Do you know something we don't? Howdy Loudfans, I was asked about this and realized I have not posted my health status updates here at Loudfan Land. I apologize! I was blogging about the whole experience and I'm sure I must have linked to it at some point, but regardless, the link below will get you to the last (and final for now) status on my angry prostate region: http://pobuck.blogspot.com/2010/01/sweet.html Long story short, I finished 33 radiation sessions with virtually no ill side effects about a month ago. In the coming months I will have more blood work done to see if any further treatment is required. So far, so good! I feel fine, still have hot flashes from the hormone therapy, but to date, I have grown no girly breasts. I'm back lifting and sweating full time at work and have developed a bizarre obsession with 70's classic rock. I like the new Magnetic Fields album a lot, and I agree with Dan that there are some good songs buried underneath the noise on Distortion. Much love and peace, Gil ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V9 #32 ******************************
