I tried google, but with what I think I remember, it's really not easy to use a search engine. Male vocal, agreeably gruff. Not at all like the guy from Pearl Jam. Crunchy guitars, pretty big production. (Foo Fighters is one of my hypothesis candidates, but I haven't knowingly listened to them in years and this seemed achingly familiar). Moderately uptempo, not super fast, but definitely not ballady The hook that stuck in my head descends over a line that is something like "looking for a conversation," then another descending figure for "?-ing for ????" and the last line starts lower (maybe even an octave lower). I think there was also something about satellites. Allmusic.com lists nearly SEVEN HUNDRED recordings titled Satellite. My first thought was that it was some project with a tangential connection to GBV, but in retrospect the production seems a tad too glossy. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 4 Sep 2009 12:36:00 -0400 From: glenn mcdonald Subject: Re: [loud-fans] song id help? I heard that song last year at a ballgame, and ended up googling the same (wrong) lyrics that dmw came up with "looking for a conversation, looking for a satellite" instead of the (correct) "looking for complications, looking for a sign of life". Still don't have a clue what "Learn to Fly" is about, but it has one catchy chorus! - -Steve ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 4 Sep 2009 15:51:11 -0400 From: outbound-only email address Subject: Re: [loud-fans] song id help? I got lots of actual conversations about satellites, and hits dwindled to nothing useful when I adde3d keywords like "music" or "lyrics." Usually I feel like I'm pretty good at a-googlin', but I came up short here. If anyone wants to >>really<< impress me, I'm also trying to figure out what (if anything) the little instrumental thing that NESN uses as bed music in latish innings of Red Sox games is (they play a few seconds of it coming back from commercial somewhere around the 7th or 8th inning, I think just once/game.) It sounds pretty Fugazi-ish -- it's not "Break," and it's not "Nightshop" but the riff is a bit reminiscent of those tunes, only it has a more straightforward major key construction (I think). ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 4 Sep 2009 20:40:25 -0400 From: glenn mcdonald Subject: Re: [loud-fans] song id help? > If anyone wants to >>really<< impress me, I'm also trying to figure > out what (if anything) the little instrumental thing that NESN uses as > bed music in latish innings of Red Sox games is Bespoke interstitial bit by Handsome Brothers Music (http://www.handsomebrothers.com).
