We're all getting older as a list demographic, so higher cholesterol comes with age. My doc put me on a statin drug, Pravastatin, and, things were fine for several months, but, suddenly, I began to have several problems a few weeks ago--all the textbook side effects--muscle aches and weird pains, shortness of breath, chest tightness, heart palipitations, memory loss (bad), fatigue. I was out of breath simply getting out of bed! I come off of them, and within a day start to feel better and start feeling healthy again and symptoms subside. I took myself off of the drug without a consult (drives my doc crazy, but she'll get over it). I simply did some internet searching and reading about side effects, researching all my prescriptions that I take. I know that statins are the number one prescribed drug, (Lipitor is at number one) but please, be wary. My kidneys almost shut down from the overload of damaged muscle tissue that my body tried to get rid of (I'll spare you the details). I think that an autopsy would reveal the cause of death for me with the coroner saying "His kidneys failed, but his cholesterol levels were beautiful." I think that dietary changes (staying away from my mother's southern fried everything) and supplements of fish oil, garlic and pomegranate should do me better than the white oval tabs o' death (my brother takes an over-the-counter product called Cholest-Off that does the trick for him). It used to be numbers over 240 were high, then it was 200, now it's 180. My cholesterol was like, 243 to begin with. If they work for you, great, but be warned. I was fine for about 8 months on them, then it hit me all of a sudden. Of course, the best thing to do is remove all trans fats from your diet, cut down (or out) on dairy, remove red meat, eggs, etc... and exercise regularly. I'm really creeped out by the modern attitude that the solution to every health problem is a drug, but don't get me started on the politics of health care reform, or I'll rant about how the medical establishment WANTS us all to be sick. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Jul 2009 11:24:03 EDT From: Markwstaples@aol.com Subject: [loud-fans] Posies and $ Here's a clip from NPR about The Posies and how bands make money now (and how they don't): Suddenly Mary's fine, - --Mark _http://bit.ly/n732a_ (http://bit.ly/n732a) **************Hot Deals at Dell on Popular Laptops perfect for Back to School (http://pr.atwola.com/promoclk/100126575x1223105306x1201716871/aol?redir=http:%2F%2Faltfarm.mediaplex.com%2Fad%2Fck%2F12309%2D81939%2D1629%2D9) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Jul 2009 21:28:47 +0000 (GMT) From: Richard Blatherwick Subject: Re: [loud-fans] Posies and $ I can't help thinking that this is a bit of an example of 'there's nothing new under the sun', as far as their Geffen experience went. Band too busy enjoying themselves to realise that it's they that are ultimately paying for all the high living, rather than the mirage of it all being tied in with their 'success' to whatever degree. The major advantage folk like Jon and Ken have in this day and age, and I'm mighty glad that they do, is that there is that much music around in so many formats, marketplaces etc, that there is still a living to be made in many ways shapes and forms. A similar band of the 70s would probably have disappeared completely. These days there are always folk wanting to hire you to do something or other, so it is possible to makes ends meet, though it is more like a real job in terms of time spent, rather than the life of Reilly that many musicians see themselves enjoying when they start out. It speaks well of those folks who can adjust their mindset to accept that doing what they always wanted to is the important thing, rather than necessarily making the mega-bucks and driving Rollers into swimming pools for the hell of it! I'm glad they've stuck at it as otherwise there'd be no Chainsmoking in the USA, Conversations or Second Time Around. My world would be a slightly poorer place without them. - --- On Thu, 30/7/09, Markwstaples@aol.com wrote: From: Markwstaples@aol.com Subject: [loud-fans] Posies and $ To: loud-fans@smoe.org Date: Thursday, 30 July, 2009, 4:24 PM Here's a clip from NPR about The Posies and how bands make money now (and how they don't): Suddenly Mary's fine, - --Mark _http://bit.ly/n732a_ (http://bit.ly/n732a) **************Hot Deals at Dell on Popular Laptops perfect for Back to School (http://pr.atwola.com/promoclk/100126575x1223105306x1201716871/aol?redir=http :%2F%2Faltfarm.mediaplex.com%2Fad%2Fck%2F12309%2D81939%2D1629%2D9) ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V8 #135 *******************************
