Cool additional artwork, commentary by all 3 main members and bonus tracks, although some of the bonus tracks have already been issued in the "Fuzzy Warbles" collection. And the remixed sound is great. The demos of Moulding's (er, The Red Curtain's) songs are interesting because they have more of a funky 80's vibe to them in contrast to the 60's homage versions that made the cut. Only quibble: the outer sleeve says XTC as The Dukes of Stratosphear. I guess is shouldn't matter since we all are in on the joke. Still it takes away some of the authenticity. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Jun 2009 10:23:28 -0400 From: Michael Bowen Subject: Re: [loud-fans] elp help On Fri, Jun 12, 2009 at 9:43 PM, Jenny Grover wrote: > (I don't want it to be like the Murmur remix, where it's > an interesting alternate mix, but too unlike the original mix to ever > replace it). A reviewer in one of the British magazines (Uncut or Mojo, I forget which) called the 25th anniversary reissue "the Bill Berry mix", as they seem to have pushed the drums much further up front than on the original vinyl version. One of the... > gems... of my vinyl collection. Yes, a bonus EP included with their ill-fated second album, THE ART OF FALLING APART (which they did after one more studio record). The CD reissue, of ART, naturally, appends those bonus tracks onto its aluminum pits. Chalk up one fan of the "Hendrix Medley" here, Andy "Although no sculptured marble should rise to their memory, nor engraved stone bear record of their deeds, yet will their remembrance be as lasting as the land they honored." - --Daniel Webster, from "Eulogy on Adams and Jefferson," Aug. 2, 1826 ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Jun 2009 12:09:26 -0700 From: Andrew Hamlin Subject: Re: [loud-fans] Moz reissues On 6/12/09, Markwstaples@aol.com wrote: > Does anyone know if there's going to be a domestic reissue release of > Morrissey's SOUTHPAW GRAMMAR? I see no sign of a US release. However, given that this GRAMMAR differs significantly from the original issue, Moz fanatics will probably want it (so as to give a two-level effect). The rights to the Dukes and some other stuff came back in the dealings over the impending Virgin XTC reissues. I'm guessing Andy wished to give the reissues every chance to make all the money they can. The Sir John and The Swami discussions are well worth a listen. - - Steve __________ Mojo: If push comes to shove, what is your all-time favourite album? Harry Shearer: Right now it would be Apple Venus by XTC. Every fucking song on that record is a killer, and I just think it's Beatles-esque in the best sense of the term. We'll never see it live, which I both treasure and bemoan. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Jun 2009 22:33:13 EDT From: Markwstaples@aol.com Subject: Re: [loud-fans] Re-Dukes In a message dated 6/13/2009 4:32:27 P.M. I played "Bikeride to the Moon" when I was in the production room recording the show the other day, and it was glaring how low the levels were on that '80s disc of CHIPS FROM THE CHOCOLATE FIREBALL. I had to raise levels two notches above the dot on the mixing board just to get the thing to peak at 0 on the burner's meters ! I'm just wondering it the new mixes take away from the low-fi 4-track charm.
