Can anyone recommend a safe and...."easy"....and free if possible download converter? I want to put this video up on my blog, but as I discovered, avi files (or at least this one) is huge. Do you mean mp4 for video? If so, and you are in the minority that are Mac users then try SimpleMovieX. There is a free (trial?) version and the fully functional paid version ($35 or thereabouts). It works pretty straightforwardly without giving you any great functionality, which is fine for rough n ready stuff like I've been putting together. If you want more features in terms of audio and picture editing then look elsewhere. Unfortunately I don't know if a PC version exists. - --- On Sat, 7/3/09, Gil Ray wrote: > From: Gil Ray > Subject: [loud-fans] tech help > To: "Loud list" > Date: Saturday, 7 March, 2009, 11:51 PM > I have an avi video file (8 min.) that I would like to > convert to a mp3 file. And yes, I meant to say mpg. At least that is what most of the other vid files I have are, unless they are wmv. Actually, since my digital camera's videos are avi files, I might not mind buying an app, if it's easy and doesn't destroy my computer! I tried a few different free programs and nothing worked well for me until I discovered ffmpeg. If you are handy with a command line, it seems to convert really well. It has tons of options, however, so is pretty complicated. I've used it to convert AVI files and MPG files. Going with low quality (it is an iPod after all), I can shrink a 500MB file down to about a 70MB MP4 file. Google "ffmpeg windows binaries" and see what comes up. There might be similar for Windows. Here's one place to look and there are probably others. - - Steve __________ I can't resist an anime that includes a small, cute, violence prone girl with a scythe. - John ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Mar 2009 22:20:43 -0800 (PST) From: Gil Ray Subject: Re: [loud-fans] tech help Unfortunately, I don't do command line. (but I did look it up to see what it is!) At work, our IT guy is making us to google our own fixes, and I have learned some stuff...for instance; I believe there is a bug with our (home computer) McAfee security system that's eating up our virtual memory. Neat, but I haven't done anything about it yet!
