I think both records are quite good- Bon Iver's a bit overhyped but made my top ten. Didn't hear Santogold until the top ten mentions piqued my interest. Strikes me as a more radio-ready MIA-lite. A good listen, though I can't see placing it in the top ten. To my eyes, there seemed to be more NYC bias to P&J this year. Still not sure what Bon Iver sounds like--but I can always try the Amazon samples. Still still not sure, though, if it's fair how P&J combined points from (presumably) separate Bon Iver releases, Andy "also comes in white" - --written with a finger on a dust-laden truck heading south through on I-5 the other day ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Jan 2009 15:47:30 -0800 From: Andrew Hamlin Subject: Re: [loud-fans] Pazz, Jop '08 On 1/24/09, glenn mcdonald wrote: > Well, as of now they've fixed 14 of the errors I told them about, so > they're down to 1678. Everybody knows (even nowhere) that HOME BEFORE DARK is by the Liz Painter Band! glenn didn't mention it onlist (too modest?) but you can find some hashing of Pazz & Jop, with contributions by himself, here: http://www.ilxor.com/ILX/ThreadSelectedControllerServlet?action=showall&boardid=41&threadid=69079#msg364558 ...and you'll find a link to the ILM metal poll (collated by glenn) here: http://furia.com/ And nope, they *still* can't spell his name right... Andy "Lord of the world, the Blessed One wears only robes made of rags taken from a dung-heap or a cemetery, and so also does the brotherhood of bhikkhus. Now, Lord, this suit has been sent to me by King Pajjota, which is the best and most excellent, and the finest and the most precious, and the noblest that can be found. Lord of the world, may the Blessed One accept from me this suit, and may he allow the brotherhood of bhikkhus to wear lay robes." - --from http://www.sacred-texts.com/bud/btg/btg31.htm ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Jan 2009 19:27:55 -0500 From: glenn mcdonald Subject: Re: [loud-fans] Re: Pazz & Jop > Still still not sure, though, if it's fair how P&J combined points > from (presumably) separate Bon Iver releases, No, they just counted two extra votes from the 2007 poll for the same album in its original indie release. This is a clause they invoke every so often, more often for singles than albums. But if you look at the places above and below Bon Iver, you see that it made no difference for them in either points or votes. Boosted MGMT, the other beneficiary, 3 places, though. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Jan 2009 21:09:34 -0500 From: "Paul King" Subject: [loud-fans] The Firemen I didn't know that McCartney was into electronic music. In his latest LP which I got from EMusic (which it claims is a 2009 album), the song "Sing The Changes" sounds like he's angling for a hit, and likely attempting for his electronic experiments to go mainstream. Any comments on his dabbling efforts (other than the obvious comment that he's so famous, he could sell a million by recording his farts in the bathtub)?
