The best show I've ever been to. I had the best "seat" in the place. Front and center. I danced my ass off during Pyon's set (I think I actually lost 10 pounds--I'm going on the Pylon diet), but I did manage to get seven somewhat okay minutes of footage with my camera from the Pylon set. I never have used it before, so it is a tad rough. I just wish I'd gotten Gravel Truck on video. I did, but it was completely accidental, and only about nine seconds in length of "Every Word Means No"--Mitch only, on screen. I was intending to take a photo and the control wheel was accidentally on the movie setting. Dammit, I wish I'd reviewed my owners manual before going to this show. When I pulled in the venue, Mitch and Shalini and co. (sounds like a description from BMG music service catalog "Mitch Easter and co. rock out on their sophomore lp") were leaving the soundcheck in their van and heading off to eat, I think. Said hi as I arrived. Mitch is always so nice-- a gentleman, like Scott. I talked to Shalini briefly thanking her for the nice e-mail she sent me last year when we corresponded about The Rosebuds--later when they returned to play, and I talked to Mitch before the show about if he liked The Rosebuds CD I gave him at the Greenville Shalini gig a couple of years back (yes) and if the puppies in the "Every Word" video were any relation to his dog Buford, who I saw in an '80s MTV interview (no--from LA where they did the shoot) and got to finally meet Larry! He recorded the entire night on audio. Also got to meet Pylon after soundcheck--they let me back there because I'd sent back my sleeve of the HITS CD to be signed, and they said to the staff, "Let 'im come back here!" Vanessa is a real sweetheart. I bought a signed, decorated Pylon (they only had five, and I got first pick!) and they gave me a Pylon keychain. Vanessa and I interestingly enough (for me) talked about the vintage furniture in the place. I pointed out all the vintage '60s American Seating Co. brand furniture everywhere, and then it occurred to me that my dad sold the stuff back then and all this furniture was sold in the Winston-Salem area by my dad (he had their Southern region), and it was in the bar 4 decades on. How cool is that? The only place I'd seen that much AS furniture before was in my house and basement growing up. Also talked to the Pylon guys and CHOMP is supposed to come out later this year, but they are experiencing problems with the master tapes--there is a lot of hiss and they don't know why, and they've had to bake the tapes and what not--but they are getting there with it. I'm going to work on getting the pics and good vids I made on my MySpace page, and will hopefully have those up by tomorrow. Also made two new friends--Eric Drewes, a former LF digest member (he, his wife and I hung out during the show) and Amanda Philemon, who works for Mitch at Fidelitorium and run the merchandise table for Pylon. She thought it was cool that I was a WNCW DJ--said she loves the station (and Rog, you would've thought she is hot--she IS!) Everything is, everything is, everything is, everything is cool. Yep, I'm one happy fangeek. - --Mark "I mayke cawpees" (Vanessa in the ATHENS, GA INSIDE OUT movie) **************Looking for a car that's sporty, fun and fits in your budget? I had on a WNCW baseball cap. - --Mark, who actually told his boss the truth at my restaurant job--me fully expecting to be fired (there are other shlepping gigs to be found--but, I WAS going, and I don't like to lie) and he didn't mind, because he's a music lover and a roadie for Hootie and the Blowfish, so I got his blessing and was off for the night! **************Looking for a car that's sporty, fun and fits in your budget?
