The list of albums I'm slightly surprised to see no one here talking about keeps growing - can't remember if I'd heard The California Oranges or the new Earlimart last time we did this, those both stirke me as quite strong. The Telepathic Butterflies has a smidge too much psychedelia in its indie pop for my taste, but it's very much the sort of thing I'd expect folks hereabouts to eat up. Also currently digging Minisnap, (Bats w/o Robert Scott), Sleep Out, Thou, and The Gresham Flyers (very Wedding Present, them). Samples of new Matthew Sweet sound good at first blush, ditto Miranda Sound. I found the new Parts + Labor (minutmen/husker du homage 52 "songs" in ~32 minutes, recorded and mixed in 2 days) pleasantly bracing and look forward to digging out the poppy nuggets, but my sweetie wanted a shut door between her ears and the disc, so it's clearly not for everyone. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Jul 2008 10:51:43 -0700 (PDT) From: jason hernandez Subject: Re: [loud-fans] Dan in Real Life--NEXT!!! I personally didn't think Dark Knight was that gruesome, but then I grew up in the 80s watching Friday the 13th movies on cable when I was 9 years old. And I grew up in an okay adult, I think. I'd agree, though, that The Dark Knight isn't a movie for very young kids. But hey, anyone remember the Robocop cartoon (based on an R-rated movie, more violent than The Dark Knight)? Or the Toxic Avenger cartoon (also based on an R-rated movie, more violent The Dark Knight AND Robocop)? Or the Rambo cartoon? - --- On Mon, 7/21/08, R. Kevin Doyle wrote: > From: R. I WANNA like it, but feel like Danger Mouse is getting in way over his head and makes everything sound exactly the same. My thoughts on that were solidified when I picked up Beck's new disc, also produced by Danger Mouse. It didn't sound like Beck anymore - the funk groove has been replaced with a disjointed nu electro sorta sound, and that was the same complaint I had about Black Keys. Although, like the new My Morning Jacket, when the songs are good, they are GREAT but when the songs are bad (mmj trying to sound like prince, for goodness sakes??), they sound overproduced and like they are trying to hard to fit in with the hipster agenda. But, once again, just my opinion (I have learned that I must include the imho statements, as a friend just got sued for blogging stuff about an unethical local figure here in Phoenix, and yet because she didn't say it was her opinion, the assumption is it is stated as fact and so now she may actually have to settle or go to court. * sigh * litigious society makes me sad.) After the power returned, tried as I may, tried as I might I couldn't get input levels--at all. There was a thunderstorm outside that I didn't hear from the sound insulation. Hope they don't blame me. Anyway, it should be on in a few days (three hours, anyway), and I'll let you know you can hear listen in if you want. Last show generated fan mail and it was run three more times! If you don't play crap, they will come. Scott tunes this time 'round are the Pixies cover and "Throwing the Election." And, Fleet Foxes is ***king fantabulous. - --Mark np: Sarandon KILL TWEE POP (promos are fun, boys and girls!) **************Get fantasy football with free live scoring.
