I think he really suffers for no longer having the lovely and talented Caitlin Cary as a foil/sounding board/b.s. detector. The boy needs an editor more than anybody I know. There are probably several great records spread out across his solo albums but I've never taken the time to assemble them. As for Whiskeytown, Strangers Almanac and Faithless Street have both been reissued with bonus tracks. The latter is my favorite since, as is often the case, it was my intro to them. And jumping late into the Gram parsons discussion, there are promo copies of the Return Of The Grievous Angel tribute LP out there that come with a bonus disc of Gram's versions of the covered songs in the same running order as the trib. The trib itself is one of the best of that genre, including Whiskeytown's killer version of "A Song For You" and is worth picking up. I must go dig my copy out... Simply find a singer who can handle that key, record him/her, and then give people a choice between the two versions. Like that 12-inch I never got around to buying, John Lydon vs. Jack Bruce on the Golden Palominos' cover of "The Animal Speaks"... I have to agree about "Just Gone", though. Those are high notes... My understanding (albeit limited) is that tags are a thing you can use to make your posts more easily "searchable." Let's say you're looking for something you wrote about Game Theory. If you tagged that post Game Theory and then search your tags for Game Theory, that post would be one of the ones that pops up a little more quickly. I have a Word Press blog and, while I don't make the tags public, they have been very useful in tracking down, say, all posts where I reference a specific band or specific event. I don't do this often, but I do this when I'm trying to find something I wrote so I can link back to it. Anyhow, Your Mileage May Vary. That depends on how you set up your page. I've seen folks who use tags extensively in their sidebar and on their search pages. I just use them for myself and use "categories" for my (three or four mostly disinterested) readers. I'm no WordPress guru, but if that's what your using, I'm sure there is a widget or code block you can use to make it pop up on your sidebar if that's what you'd like. I've googled and > lost patience. Tags are a way to group all of your posts on a particular topic, so that readers can read all the posts on a particular subject. For example, I guest-edit an mp3 blog that my friend Jon runs, and the convention there is that you tag a song that you're writing about according to what decade it was recorded in, so the only tags there are "1950s," "1960s," "1970s," "1980s," and "1990s." Or if someone's blog is political, they might, say, tag posts by the issue or candidate concerned. Honestly, unless you have a small and clearly defined set of topics that are all you write about, tags tend to be confusing and useless, so if you have to ask what they are, chances are exellent you don't need 'em. I think it's beating out The Headlights for me as best record of the year. The CD sleeve is gorgeous also. It's the best Blue Ridge Mountain baroque pop ever to come out of the Pacific Northwest. - --Mark What is Fagbug? On the 11th annual National Day of Silence (April 18, 2007), Erin Davies was victim to a hate crime in Albany, NY. Because of sporting a rainbow sticker on her VW Beetle, Erin's car was vandalized, left with the words "fAg" and "u r gay" placed on the hood and driver side of her car. Despite initial shock and embarrassment, Erin's decided to embrace what happened and film a documentary about her 58-day cross country tour around the US and Canada in her car known worldwide as the fagbug. The film follows Erin's quest to drive her vandalized car over the course of one year and is scheduled to hit the film festival circuit during fall 2008.
