The CDs issued in UK editions still confuse an oldster like me, who remembers that "Drive My Car" is "supposed" to be on something called Yesterday...and Today and not Rubber Soul. There are very few Beatles songs I don't like, but DMC is one of them, and I think it totally does not fit on RUBBER SOUL. In the case of that lp, I think the US version was much better. Oh, and "Mr. Moonlight" makes me wanna shoot them, Jonathan Richman "There's Something About Mary" style. Fun idea to mess with your pet: Totally separate the channels on RUBBER SOUL and turn the left channel completely off--put the right channel near your dog's bed and leave the room and watch--watch dog go nuts looking for The Beatles. - --Mark **************Ideas to please picky eaters. I'm particularly wary of older CDs that sound too "bright". I never replaced my original CD version of HEAVEN UP HERE, but I DID replace OCEAN RAIN. The sound quality was improved on the newer version--it was definitely louder at the same volume level when I did a comparison. The '04 mix has more punch and clarity--you can hear the Stiff Stuff in Ian McCulloch.'s hair crunch like a bag of potato chips when he moans on "Thorn of Crowns." (What's he doing??) kidding The bonus tracks make this reissue worth it IMO. - --Mark **************Ideas to please picky eaters. Watch video on AOL Living. I've seen Talking Heads 77 and MORE SONGS ABOUT BUILDINGS AND FOOD together, but I don't think the later goes with the former--just doesn't fit to me. Bonnie Tyler--FASTER THAN THE SPEED OF NIGHT and SECRET DREAMS AND FORBIDDEN FIRE Might as well make your Bonnie/Steinman fix one-stop. And judging by YouTube, she matches Freda Payne on "Band Of Gold." Surprised Mark can tear himself way from THE GUM THIEF (especially considering where it's set), Andy "I'm Not A Geek! How do you think I feel--for me it's supposed to be on something called ROCK AND ROLL MUSIC! Still think "I've Just Seen A Face" works much better on RUBBER SOUL, Andy "Believing in progress does not mean believing that any progress has yet been made." - --Franz Kafka ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 01 Mar 2008 16:37:36 -0600 From: Jack Lippold Subject: Re: [loud-fans] album twofers Although many - if not most - Sparks fans would disagree, their first 2 albums: the Rundgren/Lowe produced "Sparks" (aka Halfnelson) and "A Woofer in Tweeter's Clothing" were their finest albums. I remember they were repackaged in the mid-70's in a 2-album set in the UK and I actually have a release of both those albums on a single CD. Funny thing is - to get 2 40+ minute albums on a single CD required them to master the last 3 songs of "Woofer/Tweeter" at a higher speed. It doesn't sound too bad unless you're familiar with the normal speed versions of the LPs or single CDs. "Whipping and Apologies" clocks in at 4:42 instead of 5:05. ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V7 #342 *******************************
