Coincidentally, a cow orker and I were returning from lunch on Tuesday when we saw one of those turn in front of us. I like the idea, but (especially here in Detroit) I just have nightmares of some cellphone jockey plowing through an intersection and rendering a smart car into an extremely fuel efficient, ecologically friendly mist of aluminum and polymers. -d.w. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 Feb 2008 09:53:04 -0800 (PST) From: Mike Curley Subject: Fw: [loud-fans] RE: loud-fans-digest V7 #326 Er...what about: Left of the Dial Color Me Impressed Alex Chilton Little Mascara Unsatisfied Can't Hardly Wait Valentine Hold My Life Shiftless When Idle Really, I find it hard to pick three. I can't nohow do a top 3 replacements song list, but I can do a top 3 replacements songs I've covered: 1. Valentine - The Hyphens learned this for, duh, a show around valentine's day. It went really well. 2. The Ledge - I played this solo at least a few times. In the heyday of OLGA I thought this was the best-sounding Mats tune to play when you really can't play guitar. 3. God Damn Job - Feckless Beast stumbled thorugh this a few times. We had some friends who did a killer slow country version, we tried to start ours that way (even though we were not a killer slow country band) and then transition to the original tempo (even though we were not a hardcore band). Oh well ... it was fun for us, if not for the audience. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 Feb 2008 16:28:18 -0500 (EST) From: Dan Sallitt Subject: [loud-fans] Replacements Let's say: Within Your Reach Sixteen Blue Alex Chilton - - Dan ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 07 Feb 2008 17:23:25 -0500 From: Jenny Grover Subject: Re: [loud-fans] RE: loud-fans-digest V7 #326 Gee, no one has mentioned "Answering Machine"? Within Your Reach -- you have to admit, it was a pretty damn ballsy move for a band still thought of as hardcore to put an all-synth song on an album in 1983 Although "Gary's Got A Boner," "Can't Hardly Wait" and "Color Me Impressed" are usually up there as well. I find myself wanting to listen to them (and GT.... and The Pixies....) pretty much more than anyone else from back "in the day." In fact, my wife and I just used "I Will Dare" at my wedding. See, she's ten years younger than me and the song is appropriate because... oh, well.... you've heard the song so you know. In its own way, its an incredibly romantic song. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 Feb 2008 12:56:07 -1000 From: "R.
