I see that eMusic has it, but it's hard to tell much from the samples, and in general it seems like most of the songs are quieter than that. I like what the review up there says and was wondering if that's an apt description. Jen ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Jan 2008 14:42:18 -0500 From: "Michael W. I remember him touring with Neil and Crowded House when he was around 14, and he had rock-star charisma even then. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jenny Grover" To: "loud-fans" Subject: [loud-fans] son of neil Date: Wed, 30 Jan 2008 12:25:22 -0500 Anyone got Neil Finn's "I'll Be Lightning"? 3wk is playing "This Place is Killing Me" and I love it! This, combined with Idolator's refusal to link titles to ballots, leads me to officially proclaim 2008 as The Year User-Friendliness Went To Heck On A Pudding Pop. Here are my picks, as best I could ferret them out (final position, followed by number of votes, followed by number of critics voting): 1. Charlotte Gainsbourg--5:55 167 60 6 2. Kinski--Down Below It's Chaos 745 (41-way tie) 11 1 3. Low--Drums & Guns 46 178 15 4. Patty Griffin--Children Running Through 49 174 19 5. Fountains Of Wayne--Traffic And Weather 73 134 16 6. Abra Moore--On The Way (did not chart that I could discover) 7. The Stooges--The Weirdness 293 (8-way tie) 31 3 8. PJ Harvey--White Chalk 26 309 33 9. Busdriver--RoadKillOvercoat 519 (12-way tie) 18 2 10. Warren Zevon--Preludes 11475 (a tie that goes on forever) 5 1 (mislabeled with only its subtitle, "Rare And Unreleased Recordings") Roughly the same rundown as the Idolator Poll, really, except I don't think anyone stood up for Abra. Got a kick out of the JRT's remark on Rufus Wainwright. Most exasperating thing sent to me by an editor in the year 2007, regarding a review of THE WEIRDNESS: "I know Mike Watt but [sic] name, but presume that at least half our readers don't...Ditto Williamson and Asheton." Or maybe, "Regarding your reviews, there's style guide for this magazine, and but for his star power Lester Bangs would have to conform to it, too." I did discover recently that another editor, whom I'm very fond of, had no idea what a "beard" was. Getting back towards Rufus. But then again Rufus usually goes clean-shaven. Once again we need glenn to tell us what all the numbers mean. No matter how many times they mangle his name, he never gets mad... Andy Blessed be Thou for all the joy My soul has felt today! O let its memory stay with me And never pass away! I was alone, for those I loved Were far away from me, The sun shone on the withered grass, The wind blew fresh and free. Was it the smile of early spring That made my bosom glow? 'Twas sweet, but neither sun nor wind Could raise my spirit so. Was it some feeling of delight, All vague and undefined? No, 'twas a rapture deep and strong, Expanding in the mind! Was it a sanguine view of life And all its transient bliss A hope of bright prosperity? O no, it was not this! It was a glimpse of truth divine Unto my spirit given Illumined by a ray of light That shone direct from heaven! I felt there was a God on high By whom all things were made. I saw His wisdom and his power In all his works displayed. But most throughout the moral world I saw his glory shine; I saw His wisdom infinite, His mercy all divine. Deep secrets of his providence In darkness long concealed Unto the vision of my soul Were graciously revealed. But while I wondered and adored His wisdom so divine, I did not tremble at his power, I felt that God was mine. I knew that my Redeemer lived, I did not fear to die; Full sure that I should rise again To immortality. I longed to view that bliss divine Which eye hath never seen, Like Moses, I would see His face Without the veil between. - --Anne Bronte, "In Memory Of A Happy Day In February" ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Jan 2008 21:26:15 -0500 From: "glenn mcdonald" Subject: Re: [loud-fans] Behold, the Pazz & Jop But all these problems and more are fixed at: www.furia.com/all-idols/2007/ Voice and Idolator album votes combined, everything linked, and a complete album-list on one page where you can find anything you want, as well as lots of other stats... glenn On Jan 30, 2008 7:35 PM, wrote: > http://www.villagevoice.com/pazzandjop07/ > > Behold, as well, the utter lack of a search engine to locate albums by > title *or* by artist.
