(Or convince me that I needn't bother, either way). Also there as of this morning is Bar-None's label sampler "Time for a Change," which introduced me to Freedy Johnston and Brian Dewan, among others; also features Glass Eye (Kathy McCarty's old band, The Embarrassment (proto-Big Dipper), etc.. Lotsy of quirky rock/pop/alt-folk goodness there. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Nov 2007 08:40:28 -0600 From: Steve Schiavo Subject: Re: [loud-fans] a zillion volumes of andy partridge's fuzzy warbles on emusic On Nov 27, 2007, at 7:37 AM, outbound-only email address wrote: > Anybody want to recommend 4 or 5 songs that you think would be > likely to > persuade me that I want to hear more? Dame Fortune Born Out of Your Mouth Young Marrieds I Don't Want to be Here Young Cleopatra Amazon has the Fuzzy Warbles Collector's Album, which comes in a very nice box, for 71.99. And they have the usual samples. Even the early demos sound great, but the later ones have more tracks as Andy got better recording equipment. I'd say there's 3 to 4 good albums worth of songs, but I'm a fan. - - Steve __________ I can't resist an anime that includes a small, cute, violence prone girl with a scythe. - John ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Nov 2007 08:54:40 -0600 (GMT-06:00) From: Miles Goosens Subject: Re: [loud-fans] a zillion volumes of andy partridge's fuzzy warbles on emusic doug: > The Embarrassment >(proto-Big Dipper) I'd never think of it that way! Ever since we made the change to the reply-to/reply-to-all defaults, when I reply to a message to Loudfans, I do not get a copy of my message back. So I am not sure if my message actually got to the list server. Am I doing something wrong or is this what passes for normal nowadays? ;-) In case the original reply got lost, the new Shalini cd is very good! I realize this is weird, but I just can't tell if I'm going to like a song on the basis of an out of context sample. Goodness, that's nothing that necessitates an apology. I just discovered the Embarrassment first, thanks to that wonderful FRESH SOUNDS FROM MIDDLE AMERICA sampler, and liked them better. I like Big Dipper a lot too, enough that I'd think about seeing the reunion you mentioned in the other post, but I'm just more about "D-Rings," "Death Travels West," "Dino in the Congo," "Elizabeth Montgomery's Face," etc., than I am about the Big Dipper catalog. boy on a cycle meets man with a sickle, Miles ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Nov 2007 16:48:15 EST From: Scout82667@aol.com Subject: Re: [loud-fans] Feist In a message dated 11/25/2007 10:22:39 P.M. Imagine my surprise when I saw this other, live clip of them. I apologize for calling them cute (even though SHE is). Check out her guitar playing, esp. her lead break. Awesome. I'm loving that Devo song in the Dell commercial I see every time in a coffee shop--sounds like New Traditionalists era spudboys. Caught a World Cafe interview with the Feist(y) lady and she told an interesting story about the first time she heard her song on the radio--she pulled over her Renault Le Car that she paid like, 300 dollars for with the taped boom box on the dash and had to pull over in shock/joy. I was thinking that 1982's breakdown got Andy all pastoral all the time, but these 2 tracks clearly indicate that the abrasive side of Andy was still present. They are "Young Cleopatra" and "Motorcycle Landscape" from vol. 5. Not easy listens, but very interesting. Like Andy sez in the liner notes: "What a different album 'Mummur' would have been if these made the cut!" - ---- outbound-only email address wrote: > Anybody want to recommend 4 or 5 songs that you think would be likely to > persuade me that I want to hear more?
