There's plenty, but why should I waste time sharing it when you'll inevitably start blubbering about yourself? ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Nov 2007 12:58:54 -0600 (GMT-06:00) From: Miles Goosens Subject: Re: [loud-fans] poem Oh, Mark, can't you do better than resorting to saying "fans" again in the last line? Just f'in rhyhmezone.com it, dude. My CD player is currently occupied by the new Wire EP, READ & BURN 03, which should please those who thought Wire Mk III was all ear-shredding and not as much depth. I didn't buy that argument at all, but the latest material reminds me very pleasantly of A BELL IS A CUP. I've also acquired this year's Githead album, and it's quickly become my favorite Colin Newman solo joint since the early '80s - it seems to inject some barbed wire, musically and lyrically, into the dancier, more atmospheric Colin/Malka excursions of the '90s/'00s like Immersion. Good stuff all around, and well worth your visit to posteverything.com. I haven't bought much this year, but most everything I've bought has been tremendously good. Art Brut still leads the pack for me, but this year's Mitch Easter, Ted Leo, and New Pornographers, just to name a few, would all be great #1s in any year. later, Miles - -----Original Message----- >From: Scout82667@aol.com >Sent: Nov 18, 2007 11:16 AM >To: loud-fans@smoe.org >Subject: [loud-fans] poem > >There once was a list called Loudfans, > >Full of Scott Miller, power pop proudfans, > >Cockring came along, > >Scout cut off his shlong, > >And now the list's a ghost town, fans. > > > >(kidding--Is there no music moving anybody at the moment? And given the dearth of new work by the namesake act, it's no wonder that the list is no more what it had been circa '95-'98. Have you heard it? Currently I'm listening a lot to the first Lilac Time album reissue, which has been great, since my introduction with that band was PARADISE CIRCUS on vinyl in '89, so it is like a new album for these ears. Stephen Duffy's liner notes are extensive--I read recently that he recorded with Mitch Easter in NC in the early '90s--thought that was pretty neat--I didn't know that. Been listening to that and the latest Matt Pond PA and Iron and Wine, as well as the reissue of PISCES, AQUARIUS, CAPRICORN and Jones, LTD.. Not too much longer 'til hopefully the list will jump back into gear with all the year-end lists. I think Matt Pond and Iron and Wine will be on mine. But let's talk about me now , - --Mark ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Nov 2007 16:58:22 -0800 (PST) From: zoom@muppetlabs.com Subject: Re: [loud-fans] poem > I haven't bought much this year, but most everything I've bought has been > tremendously good. Records I suggest Miles buy immediately (well, one of'em's theoretically available free on request from the artist's MySpace site): 1. Charlotte Gainsbourg--5:55 2. Low--Drums & Guns 3. Fountains Of Wayne--Traffic And Weather 4. Kinski--Down Below It's Chaos 5. Abra Moore--On The Way 6. PWRFL POWER--Injured Fruits (Bird Case). 7. Busdriver--RoadKillOvercoat 8. Warren Zevon--Preludes 9. The Stooges--The Weirdness 10. Peter Bjorn and John--Writers' Block Bubbling under: INVITATION SONGS by the Cave Singers, GA GA GA GA GA by Spoon. Spoon must be the Big Thing I Missed All These Years. I tried GIRLS CAN TELL and lo, one amazing song after another. GA GA GA GA GA I'm not so sure of on first listen--ELECTRONIC MEDITATION tortilla to REVOLVER's taco?--but I'll spin it more. Six Organs Of Admittance could have potential. Still haven't heard the new Richard Youngs. Just learned Patty Griffin has a new one this year! Bruce S. and John F. have decent word of mouth. No US release for AWKWARD ANNIE announced so far (do I wait, or pounce?)... Andy "Without money, there is no freedom.
