Apparently I also can't manage to proofread. Another sad commentary on my life. And scandalous after the "dialogue/dialog" on-list fiasco! Now I feel bad. Well, if you think about it, a shirtless man with YMCA circa 1974 moustache and the band's title might concern a clueless aging parent. I had to come out of lurkdom for that. Alas, I just don't think it's true. Too bad that my little worlds can't overlap that much. However, if there are any of you out there who really and truly wager vaguely seriously -- and legally -- on horse racing, especially through a dedicated television channel like TVG or HRTV, or an online service like TVG, XPressBet, YouBet.com, BrisBet, etc., and would like to take the interactive media and parimutuel wagering survey that I'm currently running online (probably through the Breeders' Cup) for my next book, email me privately. I can send you the URL. After going to all of posting to the list, which I do maybe three times a year, I wish I had something really insightful and musically relevant to say. For those of you who let me excerpt your insights for my chapter for a music geographies anthology to which I was asked to contribute: I sent in my draft, but no word yet from the editors. Once I hear from them and make revisions, I'll share it with all who helped. (And again, thanks!) Before the semester I saw Crowded House in KC, with some really mediocre band, followed by Neil's incredibly talented son Liam Finn opening, and that was great. (The Crowded House and Liam parts.) Neil kept make references to being in Kansas -- oh well -- but then it's only logical. The previous week I could manage to make it five blocks from my house in Tulsa to see The Knitters for $5, which is a pretty sad commentary on my life. I'm loving the songs that I've heard on Gil's CD so much that I'm finally going to have to buy the damn thing! That's how behind the times I am. I am on Facebook and Last.fm, so I guess that I'm sort of in the 21st century. I can't believe that Nick Hines has a MySpace page. For your questions: 1. I defer to Holly, as I am an imposter. My knowledge of horses is limited to a few simple facts: they're big, they run fast, they have four legs, you can die if they fuck you. Not that I would know anything about that last sort of activity! 2. The New Pornographers...please ask your perverted friends about this sort of thing. I'm still on the babytalk case, no thanks to you guys! I'm not sure my office staff can handle the subtext of this; as I've got them investigating this horse character for copyright infringement and that seems to be taxing their capabilities. Forty-somethings denying masturbation to their parents is certainly promising, but I don't have the staff to dedicate to it. Clearly, there are four or five angles to be had on this.
