I want this one. It's a dancey song about being a "North American." I don't think it's up on the site's playlist yet. I want this record! LCD Soundsystem is the band, "North American Scum" is the song. Great song and very funny. The band will be on the World Cafe tomorrow. I think Sound of Silver is the name of their album. Andrea Yes, a terrific song by a group I've been getting into a lot, particularly their previous album. You might enjoy the song more knowing that it's their response to all the people who think they're from Europe. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Aug 2007 13:18:55 EDT From: Scout82667@aol.com Subject: Re: [loud-fans] name that tune In a message dated 8/3/2007 2:20:09 A.M. Next time out they could fake German or French accents and do a "With Sympathy" era Ministry type album. "You mean they ain't from Europe?? FREEBIRD!!!" These colors don't run, they show up and stay, and stay, and stay.... - --Mark ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Aug 2007 12:19:47 -0700 From: "Michael Mitton" Subject: [loud-fans] Once So did anyone else here like "Once" as much as I did? I have a very hard time coming up with movie musicals that I like--I guess "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" and then before that, I don't know, "Top Hat"? Missing a few decades there, it seems. The music was above average for what I've heard this year. Starting with lonely, aggressive street folk and an ethereal piano solo that then combines and builds, ultimately to a full band, as their relationship similarly evolves. This music worked completely with these perfect portraits of two self-assured people who haven't figured out what it is they're assured about. I guess part of my problem with musicals generally (to be fair, including Hedwig and Top Hat) is that the songs are designed in such a blatantly obvious way to express characters' emotions that it makes Chris Columbus look like a master of subtlety. I didn't find that with Once, though. He can express sadness without approaching the front of the stage, all lights but the spot going dark, and a soft counter-tenor voice telling us he's sad because of the dreams he never pursued. He can even express more than one emotion at a time! Anyway, see it or add it to the Netflix queue. mm ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Aug 2007 16:59:25 -0700 (PDT) From: "Joseph M. Ditto re: ONCE. It's spare & moving, and the music is really well-written, varied & well-performed.
